What's something you saw at a wedding that made you swear...

A very good friend of my ex bf - after the rehearsal dinner, we went to Golden Corral. The future bride and groom were late so we all ended paying our own way for buffet food. We then went back to bride's parents house for a little after party.

Groom gives speech and says - I'm so glad that others felt you weren't good enough to marry so that you were there when I came along. WTF?!? He alluded to her being "a little big" " a little boring" etc and all the while she had tears of JOY in her eyes when he was giving his speech. Hell, what do I know, they have like ten cats between them and play online internet games all day and night long. Seriously, they are both pasty white from no sun!

I've got a new one, girls......(and it's for a wedding that hasn't even taken place yet!)

My OWN flesh-and-blood sister is thinking of doing the "Official" invitations for her wedding word of mouth or by email and is VERY seriously considering inviting people to the wedding ceremony and NOT inviting them to the reception afterward (all of which are taking place in our hometown, mind you)?!?! Are we REALLY from the same family? I AM AT A LOSS HERE! Even though we are sisters, and I fully support her right to do things they way she wants and not at all the way we are, I mean come on already, right?!?!

Sigh.....My mother and I have got our work cut out for us before this extravaganza-of-embarrasment goes off in only a few short months.....(heavy sigh again)!

OMG Christie... what is she thinking?! Why would she do that? The only thing that comes to mind that would motivate something so odd in my mind is money, saving it that is.

LOL, I'm sorry word of mouth invites? Does she want everyone she's ever met to show up and JUST for the ceremony? wink.gif This is comical, I hope you can convince her to do the logical thing.

I know you know this put she could buy card stock for $10 and print free DIY downloadable invites herself if she's trying to save money, if it's time she wants to save that's another story entirely :)

Good luck honey, I couldn't imagine having to deal with all this while trying to plan your amazing and logical wedding!

Baby girl, I know, I know!

You are preaching to the already "horrified choir" here, sweetness! I have offered to do simple, but elegant DIY invitations for her for FREE (well, not free but on my own dime to save her from her own misguided ways) on my own computer, my own printer, and I'd even buy the damn paper for her too, and she simply will not take the little gift of class I am trying to give her! I AM MORTIFIED for her in advance (10 years from now she will wonder herself what the hell she was thinking) but I can tell you this....if you know anything about ME, imagine the POLAR opposite, and that is my sister! (And lest we forget, this is the very same sister that originally entertained the notion of getting married 72 hours after me, but smartly, changed her date after I helped her find the mind she had lost with that ridiculous idea!)

Ugh....you already know I love you, and thank you for further understanding that wacky and wild family from which I have been born! I always thought I was the blacksheep of the fam wanting to have a non-traditional DW, but alas my dear sister has proven me wrong yet again! wink.gif

And P.S. YES she is trying to save LOTS of money (they'd rather spend the money on a house than on a wedding), but I told her there is still a certain way things are "done" but yet, she still doesn't get it! I'd have better luck talking to a brick wall....

I will be absolutely sure to have my marriage license with me for my wedding. It will be MY responsibility because..

I was MOH in my cousin's wedding this past summer. The rest of the bridal party has walked down the aisle and when I step out to walk with the BM, my FI (who was an usher) lets me know that the FATHER OF THE BRIDE is not there! I was like ooooh kay do I stay back here or walk? So he told the mother of the bride (both were giving her away) and I walk to the front of the church with the fakest smile and stiffest walk ever because I was so unsure of what to do. I fill everyone in the front (and photographer) in on the situation... and she captures the moment the groom had to tell the priest on camera. It was announced for everyone to be seated because the father of the bride left to get the marriage license (bride thought groom had it, groom through bride had it, so... it was left at their home 20 minutes away). We sat there for 30-45 minutes waiting on him. Why he didn't send someone else to get it who wasn't such an important element to the flow of the wedding? "If you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself."

Oh man, this stuff is awesome!

I was at a wonderful wedding this summer, flew in to Hawaii for it. The wedding was just before sunset, the ceremony was short, everything was super intimate, open bar, great food, flowing champagne. Everything was perfect, but there were three things that made me take note to not do at my wedding. 1) The wedding was close to the pool - pictures of people in bathing suits in the background just isn't cool. 2) The ceremony and reception was outside on the hotel's lawn and it got so dark, you couldn't even see what you were eating, or anyone else around for that matter. 3) By 8 pm, the bride and groom left for their honeymoon suite - and there was nothing organized for the rest of us! No dancing, no party, nothing.

Wow Christie keep us posted on how this all turns out! I remember reading about how she wanted to highjack your date... now all of this! That is so nice of you to offer to do the invites. Maybe you should just do them without telling her smile72.gif

I LOVE this thread! my experiences, unfortunately, could not stand up next to these!

LUCK! and *Sorry!* focus.gif

This is a great thread...I have been laughing all night at these stories.

I think the most recent one I have is from this summer. FI had a wedding on his side and I had to work that night, so only went to the ceremony. The bridesmaids start down the aisle...and they are in total hoochie dresses! Black and red stretchy lace that is super low cut and barely below the butt in length with high black heels. Honestly they all looked like hookers. We get to the receiving line at the back of the church and the MOH is adjusting her boobs in her bra which started to slide around and could be seen in the front vee....and I do mean adjusting....hand inside straightening the girls out...did she think no one could see?

So I missed the best part...the reception was in a tin quanset hut out in a farmers field and everyone in the wedding party got just blottoed. So my FI is outside with some other family and out spills the drunk bride, her two drunk sisters and drunk mom. The cat fight is almost on....bride is yelling and screaming about her sister bumping into her and spilling a drink...the sister yelling back that she did not...and on and on. Crying and yelling and drunken brawling.

Seriously. Have a drink or 5, whatever you can handle, but don't get so drunk you act like a squalling 10 year old at your wedding!

I do believe in $1 or $2 bars though. It is not about being cheap, but this way people keep track of what they are doing with their drinks because they feel they paid for them. Otherwise they are so wasteful...drink as much as you want, just don't drive and don't leave full drinks abandoned on a table and walk away because the bar is free and you can just go get another on.
