Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Courtneybgorman,

I have also paid a deposit for my outside photographer and videographer. I haven't been told by anyone that no outside vendors are allowed, but I also haven't asked. From reading this forum I found that most people just paid the day pass and then there was no problem having their own photographer.

I e-mailed my WC and will let you know what she replies.

Thanks for the heads up!

I know, I didn't mention anything either. My wc just asked if I wanted the photographer to get a hold of me, and I told her thanks, but I already have my photographer.. so then the photographer at the resort sent me this email..

I am not sure if she told you already, but due to some change in our administration, it´s most likely that outside vendors will not be allowed at the resort in a near future. This is why it´s very important to know if you´re photographer comes from home, he/she is from the Mayan Riviera, etc etc...This, since I need to specify your situation to my boss and the administration.
Could you assist me on this matters please? Thank you so much for your assistance. Receive my best wishes!

So i have emailed my WC and him about my photographer and told them that I have already paid for the deposits, and have proof.

I will also let you know when I get responses.
Thanks!!!

To answer the questions about the legal marriage.. That is also the information I was provided. AND I was also told that the wedding couple, and the 4 witnesses have to be there 4 business days before the wedding

these are the only 3 documents you need to present, no translation, no any additional document.
1).- Valid passport (English are fine)
2).- Tourist card (that will be receivied once you arrive to our country at the Airport)
3).- Blood test be done here at our Medical Center at the Hacienda Doña Isabel that is at the main entrance of our 3 resorts
Note, the 4 witnesses need to present valid passport or valid driver license + touristic card (please make sure your card have the complete number of code on top " it is like 11 numbers behind a cod bar").

IS IT REALLY THAT EASY? WILL WE HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING EXTRA OR DO ANYTHING EXTRA TO MAKE IT LEGAL IN THE US?
From what I understand...that's all you need to make it "legal" in Mexico...but then you need to take an extra step once you get back to your country in order to do your name changes and everything.

When we get back from Mexico, I am going to have the marriage certificate translated from Spanish to English through a translation company in Calgary (2 to choose from that I can find)...then I can take this english marriage certificate to the motor vehichles agency and have my name changed...and whatever else needs to be done.

Sounds pretty simple...I sure hope it is :)

I believe the price of the legal wedding is included in your wedding package and I understand it is very easy. We decided last minute to get married at home because our town would still require a receremony and it turned out to be cheaper for us to do the legal at home and then the vow renewal in Mexico.

Emme & Bahiabride! I'm so freakin excited for you girls...and Keira, you're so close too! I now have 27 people booked for our wedding and it's all anyone can talk about when we're together and it's still 7 months away! I can't WAIT to read your reviews and see some great pics!

I know myself I am freaking out.

Nicole and Emme, I wish you all the best. It's going to be a ton of fun, expecially if you do end up meeting for a drink. Have one for me too! :-)

Yup! It's REALLY that easy! it's awesome!! It's probably different for people from Cananda, but I'm from Wisconsin and that's all I needed. SUPER easy. And when I got home I didn't need to translate anything. I simply took my spanish wedding certificate to the social security office, got that done. Then I took the proof of that to the DMV and they accepted that. And I just got my new passport, and they too had no problems! :)

Emme and Nicole! Have a great time and congratulations in advance!! I'm so excited for you both!

About legalizing the wedding and marriage certificate once you get back to the US or Canada... I've gone through the process in both countries and it's the same process. Neither the US or Canada requires you to file anything with the government to legalize your marriage. So once you're married in Mexico with your Mexican marriage certificate, it's a done deal!

As for the name changes, Trish is right - it's really simple. Walk in with your marriage certificate (in Spanish because that is the official one) and they change your name. I haven't heard of anyone asking for a translation of a Mexican wedding certificate, but I did my name changes in Ontario and Ohio, so I'm not sure what the process is for other states and provinces. Marriages in Mexico are fairly common, so I think the gov office people are pretty used to them.

The only hitch I ran into was my passport, but that had nothing to do with the marriage certificate. I was told the Canadian gov only lets you change your passport when it's within 6 months of expiry and since mine was only a year old, I can't change the name on my passport for a while. How annoying.

Hope that helps!
