I'm (obviously) clueless on photography and what certain things mean. With that being said, if a photopgrapher states (in a package) that "all high-resolution digital files delivered on DVD"...am I safe to assume that all I'm getting is that DVD, no actual prints?? And is this the norm? TIA :)

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post or not but this is my 2nd time posting this thread, the 1st one disappeared (?). I basically am confused with some of the terms...for instance if the photographer states "all digital files delivered on dvd", am I safe to assume I will be getting no prints only the dvd...theres no other verbage talking about prints. And is this the norm to just be given a dvd? TIA :)

Sometimes you get prints & a DVD.
I think the right location for this post is "invitations, stds, photos & website."
Anyway, if you get all your files on DVD you can upload them on your computer & make all the prints you want. This is what I really wanted. I like messing with digital picture, making photobooks, photoshopping, etc. So I wanted digital images that I could do all this with. I opted to get no prints & just digital images. There are companies likeMpix where you can get pro quality prints made. I got a cheap deal on 1000 snapfish prints ($12!) so I plan on printing all of mine that way. I might blow a few up for hanging with Mpix.

Found your other post.
Realized you also asked if this was the norm. It's becoming really common now that digital cameras are so popular. I think it's great for brides. It gives us so many options with our pictures.

Yes, you are correct. All you are getting is a disc with the digital files on it. You can then take that disc to where you get prints made and have photos printed from the files on that disc.
This is pretty much the norm these days. Most photographers will sell or include the disc of files.
I would recommend however, that when making prints, if you're ordering larger than 4x6, either order directly from your photographer, or use a professional photo lab. Don't use a cheapo place like Walmart or those type of places. That quality of prints you can get from your photographer or a pro lab, will be better than the discount places. You might pay more, but it'll be worth it.

if it doesnt claim that you will be getting prints but just the disk of images then most likely Yes, thats all you will get. that is pretty standard these days since printing is so simple these days with home printers and kiosks at every corner...
one thing i would definately ask is IFFFF the images will be edited or not or if the images are in full resolution or if you will retain copy rights to those images AND how many images you get.
a lot of photographers will limit one or some or all of those in order to get more print orders out of you down the line. kind of a lame in a way, which sucks.
always make sure that everythign is clear in your contract and if you want me to read over the contract before you sign it ill be more then happy to help make sure everything is on the up and up :). im veryyy sure that it is but sometimes those contracts can be kind of wordy :)
