Lightweight "suits" for GM?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find attire for the GM and my FI. After seeing all the pictures on this site and others, I really want them to be in khaki/tan/beige "suits".

My dad thinks me using "suits" is a bit overkill and thinks khaki dress pants with matching sportscoats is more realistic. (I know nothing about mens dress attire... and don't really see the difference). My wonderful FI is pretty much willing to do whatever, as long as I"m happy and he gets the final approval. I have a vision of what I want but am having difficutly finding it.

For those of you who went the tan suit/sportcoat/what-not route... where did you get them from? also when did you get them? (I am hoping my difficulty in finding anything is due to the season and I'll find more once the spring stuff comes out?)

I think these are the ones we're going with. Because they are silk they are very lightweight and breathable. They look like normal suits, not shiny. Our guys are wearing pale aqua button-down shirts to match the BMs, no ties--open collar, and the colorful boutennier. FH will wear a plain white button down to match me!

oh, and Men's Warehouse is having a huge winter sale right now. They also have a great "rewards program" where you earn gift cards on all money spent-suit, alterations, accessories, etc. Their alteration prices are very reasonable. I've been very pleased with the service we've received, especially since most of our guys are out of state.

We had ours custom made which ended up being comparable to purchasing something of nice quality at Nordstrom, etc. They were done by the Shirt Broker in Denver, but I'm sure you could find a place in your area. They ended up being perfect - he helped me choose a fabric that would complement my dress and then all the guys were able to choose the style of suit they wanted made to their custom measurements. They looked amazing.

Also, I see your date is in Jan - be sure to get your suits by July at the latest. Once the July sales were done, I did not see a single light suit on the racks which is why we went the custom route.

If you want something less formal, Banana Republic and J. Crew usually do cotton versions that also look really nice.

right now is a tough time to find lightweight suits, but as soon as spring and summer stuff starts coming out I know Jcrew and banana republic both had lightweight tan suits last year. We ordered one of them, from Jcrew, but my DH didn't like it, because he is SUPER picky about suits. Seriously it was a battle!! We ended up with a black pinstriped suit.
