real mexico in puerto vallarta area, location help

im off to PV again in a few weeks for katie and marcus wedding and i want to spend a day driving around and seeing real mexico. anyone have any advice on cool things to see out that way or places to go? i want to do a little day trip like i did in CABO. thanks! leigh

Leigh I suggest you to go heads north of Vallarta and visit Sayulita is a little fishing town is a very nice place...

If you're driving I would also say try Sayulita or San Blas I hear is nice. Vallarta adventures also does awesome day trips to San Sebastian, Guadalajara, etc.

Not sure if I am too late, but Yelapa is supposed to be really nice. Check out Sunset magazine (Dec 2007/Jan 200 for info.!

Leigh, what about Missmoloya? It's so pretty there with the lucious rainforest. The drive is a bit scary (local mexico, dogs everywhere). The zoo is out there where we got to play with the baby tiger and pather cubs. And i also think Chicos is around that area(place where they fillmed Predator).
