Jamaica - weather question

Recommended Posts

Hi, Ladies! Quick question - I am getting married in Jamaica (OR) in mid-May. We picked this because it was on the cheaper end, and was technically before hurricane season. I know it can rain anytime in Jamaica, but thought we'd have nice weather.

Anyways, the obnoxious lady who works in the office next to mine just sauntered over and asked me if I realized that May was the second rainiest month in Jamaica.

Who offers up that info ... it's been a long day ... I feel like "accidentally" knocking over the big stack of paper on her desk!

Does anyone know if this is true.

Uh oh...just read this:

Weather and Climate in Jamaica

Generally the Jamaican climate is delightful. The average temperature is 77°F (25.5°C) in the winter months and 82°F (28°C) in the summer, but the island's climate is strongly affected by the sea, which can produce cloud cover, rain and wind, and have a sudden effect on temperatures.

The coastal plains of the north shore benefit from the Tradewinds that blow off the Atlantic. These are supplemented by morning and evening breezes caused by the land heating up by day and cooling at night. In the mountains, the evenings may be a little cold, so you might want to take a light wrap or jersey.

Rain-showers are frequent, particularly in the northeast, though the sun usually comes out immediately afterwards and dries up all the rain.

The winter season (December to April) has the nicest climate, hot and sunny by day and warm at night. In July, August and September particularly (but in fact any day when it is still and there is no cloud) it can be very hot.

There are two rainy seasons, in May, and from August to October, but even then it doesn't rain every day. If you do go walking in remote places or in the mountains, then you will probably want to take a waterproof jacket.

Yeah, right with you girls. Rainy days here we go!

I am going to stick with the philosophy, of everything will be fine cuz it's MY WEDDING. When that doesn't happen, I can deal with it then, but we can't sweat the weather now.

I also booked the "twilight" ceremony, cuz I like the look of it and found out that it rains often at that time of day in the Caribbean. And I paid $1,500 extra to have this package!!!!

Just found this:

Rainy season gets underway in May on the island of Jamaica, but that doesn't mean vacationers should stay away. Most days are sunny until early afternoon. The sun is also getting warmer this time of year, and vacationers who like their weather more than just a little warm may find May to be an appealing option.

Typical Weather in May

During May the temperatures in Jamaica typically vary between a daily high of about 86.0 degrees and a daily low of approximately 75.0 degrees

I booked the ceremony to begin at 4:00, which is supposed to be the rainyest time of day.

Isn't rain on your wedding day supposed to be good luck?
