Las Caletas Brides ~ Post HERE! (THREAD CLOSED)

Recommended Posts

Thank you for the warm welcome AKH and Feb14Bride. Congrats on your wedding Feb14Bride, from reading this thread it sounds as if you had the wedding of your dreams. I have made note of your email and will be using it :)AKH, you must be getting excited about your upcoming wedding. I appreciate the donation and will definately use the points to look at the previously posted documents.

I'm pretty happy that it looks as if I can keep it under $10,000. The only extras we want is the wedding cake, the photography package that comes with 25 prints and 100 negatives, bouquets/boutenieres for the wedding party and rose petals for tables and ailse. We are hoping a family or friend can videotape for us. As for music, I think we will bring an ipod.

Although I have not decided 100% on Las Caletas, I'm pretty sure I will in the end. I am planning on staying at Dreams and am awaiting a response from them in regards to their options for a private beach wedding. In the meantime, I do have some questions that I have not been able to answer as of yet.

Everyone has been saying that they wished they had an extra hour. I too think I would like to do that. However, what I want is to have that extra hour by starting earlier. It seems as if the ceremony starts rather late in the day and by the time it is done, you have your pics taken in the dark. The point though of getting married on a beach is to have beautiful pics of you depicting that. I really want daylight pictures. The other 2 options are not really an option. My fiancee and I don't want to see each other before the ceremony for pics, nor can we get dressed in our wedding clothes the next day to take pics. Besides we would not have the photographer on the second day, or I would not pay to have my hair done again.

1) So, is it at all possible to have the guests arrive an hour earlier thus moving back the ceremony and saving daylight for the pics?

2) Red will be my theme colour, is it possible to have a red carpeted runway as opposed to the bamboo one?

3) Can you choose where the dinner will be held with the package? Can you have it on the beach instead of the restaurant?

4) I doubt my fiancee's grandfather would be able to stay up for most of the night. Is it at all possible that he go lie down in the bridal suite? I know from reading the post, it is dark up there, but do you think the staff could arrange this if need be?

5) I have some concerns regarding the quality of the pics from the photographer the company uses? Do you know if overall brides were happy with the pics or disapointed?

6) Do you know of any other forum or travel review site that has reviews/info on Las Caletas weddings besides the links posted in this forum?

Whatever help you can give me in answering these I really appreciate. I ask you brides first before contacting the company because I have a feeling that maybe you would have already asked similar ones.

Natalie,

Welcome and I'm sorry I spaced on welcoming you sooner! I'll try to answer as many questions as I can, I think the other ladies can add in more info. Ann has lots of details. Here is what I know:

I don't think you can start earlier but if you find out otherwise let me know, I would like that too. I'm pretty sure dinner cannot be on the beach because they set up the dancefloor/reception stuff there while you are eating dinner above. There are several hammocks everywhere, some covered and out of the way. Do you think his grandfather could work with a hammock and a blanket? They seem pretty strict on the no bridal suite after dark. Perhaps you can arrange a separate boat to take him back sooner? I know they have smaller boats the staff use to get back and forth. Someone here used their photographer and was pleased, let me remember or look it up. Sorry that's all I know, Nicole is very nice and informative so don't hesitate to contact her directly too if we can't help you with something.

Best Wishes,

Jamy

Hi All

I am in the midst of planning a Las Caletas wedding when I ran into a pretty big snag. The prices to get my hair done are $345USD!!! I don't think I can afford nor justify spending this amount to get my hair done. What are some of you doing about hair? I can't do my own hair and I don't know if I will have any guests that can help in this area as well.

I'm paying the $300 Nicole quoted me to get my hair done, but am having a friend do my makeup. that also includes a trial. i wonder if the prices have gone up - that's very likely. but either way - it is a lot of $$ - i was surprised as well. but they do have to come all the way out to Las Caletas, and, like you, there was no other option for me!

you could try getting it done in town first, then just hope it doesn't get too ruined on the boat trip over (wear something over it). then just have a friend that can touch it up if need be. that could be an option.

You should find out if any of your guests are good at doing hair. I have been to quite a few weddings where there is a "bridal assistant" who isn't a bridesmaid, but helps the bride on that day if she needs anything. She could go over early with you. The brides that I have talked to that have had one all make it a fun thing, make it a "special" position. But that way, you can experiment now and as many times as you want. Then you can just get her a thank you gift for helping you.

that's a great idea as well (and pretty much what I am doing for makeup). if you still want help or ideas, you could have it done locally at a salon, and bring your friend(s) with you to learn how to do your hair. then they can practice any many times as you want, like Katie said!

I couldn't justify the $300+ for someone I've never used so I planned to do it myself, but keep in mind I'm the type to go naturally curly and let it be. If I wanted a nice updo I would have paid the money for a stylist.

I got really lucky though, a stylist I know just offered to fly to PV and style the entire wedding party (12 of us) free of charge. Ann's idea of having a someone run off the boat to the bridal suite to touch up your hair would work too.

Thanks for the suggestions Ladies :)

As far as I know, none of my guests are able to do my hair. But, I'm hoping against hope that someone will suprise me with a secret talent.

Since I'm going over in the morning, I don't know about getting my hair done and hoping it keeps all day. I doubt the resort would style my hair that early.

I spoke with my hairdresser and she said that she would do a trial run with me and try to teach me how to do my own hair, then I can practice ahead of time. I'm just not sure how my nerves would be on the day of. My real problem is I have naturally curly hair that does not react well to humidity or the water in foreign countries.

Now, it is a matter of deciding whether I want to risk finding a guest who can help or my own talent and go ahead and book, knowing full well I may have to pay the ridiculous fee. Or find another location...which breaks my heart since I am already very attached to Las Caletas.

Who knew hair could cause so many problems. I know it may seem trivial but I want to look and feel beautiful on my wedding day. This was my first snag in planning a DW, I guess I got to get used to them :)

Oh, I completely understand! My hair is natually curly as well, well, natually frizzy/wavy - it's not a nice smooth curl. Especially not in the humidity in Mexico, in June! It was HUGE this past weekend when I was in Puerto RICO. Huge!

I already told Nicole (the WC) that this is my biggest fear - how my hair will look. I am hoping to be able to keep it under control, and if it actually looks good that will be a bonus! Bring one of your bridesmaids or a close friend (or a few!) with you for your hair trial, that way she can help!
