MIL - So Annoyed!

That is totally rude. She does sound like one of those people who is only happy when everyone else is miserable. And calling her Mrs._____, well I would be tempted to introduce her as Mrs. Bitch! (I'm only half kidding)

It's manipulation, plain and simple. Either she wants attention, even the negative kind, because she' miserable; or, she is so selfish she really doesn't focus on anything except her son.

 

Either way, don't let yourself be baited. Blow off as many of the comments, rudeness as you can---- as long as it doesn't impose on you, your life, and your role to your FI. When it crosses that boundary, it's time to step up and bump her down a few notches.

Your not crazy. That's really rude. This reminds me of my mom and dad's mom. Never got along. My grandmother is always saying things that are slightly rude (not too over the top to be obvious) to my mom. And my dad always sticks up for his mother! Maybe your FI feels like his has to stick up for his mother. I know sometimes my dad has to know his mom is wrong but still sticks up for her. MEN!!!

We had a wonderful holiday with my family yesterday - and it made me feel so blessed that my family has accepted FI so completely and considers him to be part of the family. FMIL in called yesterday evening and just went on and on about how lonely she was and trying to make FI feel guilty. I took all of your advice to heart, though, and just let it roll off my shoulders! FI didn't seem to bothered by her guilt trip either ... I guess the less reaction she gets out of me/us, the less she'll continue with her craziness!

I just read all this! So sorry you have to deal with that kinda crap, people are SO rude. It will work out though, and as long as you keep doing what you did the other night, which is let it roll off your shoulders and have little reaction to her b*tching, you'll be fine! I guess I'm lucky with my FMIL, she's a doll. My sister, who just got married this past Sept, puts up with a lot of rude comments and BS so I know it's gotta be tuff. You could always turn to liquor!?! No, I'm kidding, ha. Good luck to you.
