We want to have a casual BBQ in our backyard. We are probably going to rent tents and chairs and hang the white Xmas lights. We also have baseball fields directly behind my house, so we might get a softball/wiffleball/kickball game together. I want to do it about a month after the wedding, but it falls into 4th of July territory, so we might not get that many people. Currently we have more people coming then we thought so who knows what will happen. We have plenty of time to decide/plan for it.

Our original plan was to have a DW with immediate family only and an AHR a few months later for everyone else. But I am reconsidering the AHR now. I don't want to spend the money or go through all the hoopla. That is the whole reason we are running off to Mexico to get married! I just had to put a big deposit down on the location so I was stressing about the money a bit. Maybe I will change my mind about the AHR later. I just feel like it will be all extended family and friends of parents - the people I don't want to invite to a wedding anyway.

We also just had ours, and we LOVED it!!! It was a formal reception, I got to wear my dress again, and we had 275 people. It might make a difference that neither of us has been married before, and my parents paid for it. I was happy to be able to get pix with family and friends who didn't go to Mexico (we had 35 people go). So many people have told us that they had a wonderful time! Some people mentioned not having one because that's why they went to Mexico in the first place (to have a small wedding)~ we went because I've always wanted turquoise water and white sand in my wedding pictures!!! :)

It is important to me to have an AHR because I feel like we (inadvertantly) alienated a lot of people by having a DW (wish we could get grandmas to come!!!) ... that said, I am concerned about cost and logistics too. I love the idea of showing a slideshow of the DW~excellent idea!!!

We're also doing the traditional reception back home a month after our DW. We also felt we needed to do something for those who couldn't make it to our DW. Besides, my parents are paying for the AHR, so I figure they can do whatever they want - I think the AHR is more for them than for us.

It would be different if my best friends or siblings couldn't make it to Jamaica; but since they're all there, I'm happy with just having a DW and no AHR.
I agree. When I first started planning our wedding we included an AHR in the budget because we didn't think that many people would be joining us in Jamaica. The turnout is going to be great from what it looks like so I don't think I will be having a AHR.

We've planned 2 AHR's ... one where we live and one where my parents live ... but it turns out almost all of my extended family, who we didn't expect to come to the DW have already booked rooms ... so I think we're going to nix that AHR and only have one here where we live.

Casual, on the rooftop deck of Tom's bar/restaurant on a Saturday afternoon.
