Trying to pack up my life!

I am going through the exact same thing! My FH is in the military and he has been stationed 2 hours from where we live now so we are all packed and moving this weekend!!! As long as the things that mean the most to me fit in one box I will keep them but if it requires more space then that I start tossing away. Difficult, I know :) I actually saw something the other day on TV (can't remember what now) but people have anxiety attacks when they have to let something go. They want to hold on to every memory of their life and if they let that item go to the trash they feel they are losing that memory. Scary! Hope you keep your calm :)

I agree. If you haven't looked at it in years, for the most part, you don't need to keep it. My FI (and his family) are pack rats. At least the stuff his dad "collects" has value...antique furniture and clocks and anything else you can imagine. I managed to get my FI's junk amount down to 2 rooms (before I moved in...BC as I like to call it, he had 4 rooms filled with junk). He has 6 old computers, 2 guitars (and he doesn't even play guitar), boxes of stuff from 6 yrs ago from when he moved somewhere else. No thank you. I just keep choosing different rooms to redo and make him go through stuff and get rid of it. 2 more rooms to go. Then I have to deal with his basement issue...he keeps the cardboard boxes from packages...in case he needs them. I'll win!

So, long story short. You'll feel much better having the extra space for things that you do need to keep.

Ooooh Jamy, I have no good advice... I am sentimental and have little boxes of memories.

I also have most of the flower petals FI has given me... until recently - I started taking pictures of the bouquets.

Last week I was going through a box of CDs and tapes (yes, I too cannot part with my tapes - would cost a ton to get all those songs on itunes)... FI asked if I was finally going to throw out some stuff. Ha! Not yet... I was looking to see if there were any songs I wanted to add to our iPod for the wedding!

When I moved last winter I probably got rid of a third of the boxes I had before the move, which counts for something, eh?

Good luck J!

Paula you are so funny....I'm glad I'm not alone in my cassette tape collecting. And Carrie keep at it, get those last two rooms done!

The donations were picked up yesterday so that stuff is gone. I managed to get rid of two boxes worth of things I really don't need.....I am progressing!

Yay! Great job! Someone will get some use from those items.
Off topic... there is a cassette to mp3 player at Sharper Image I may invest in some day.
Wait, then I would actually have to throw the tapes away...
