Flying In Photogrpaher?

Hello!

  

 

My FI and I are getting married in Tulum next spring  

We have an AMAZING photographer here at home that we want to fly down to our resort.  In our contract it says we can have an outside photographer work our wedding and avoid the vendor fee if he stays for 3 nights (fine). But we've heard horror stories about equipment getting confiscated at the border, photographers needing work permits, licences, and just generally it being a nightmare.

Has anyone flown a photographer down and had problems? Are these just horror stories to scare people? I don't want to have to use the resort photographer and the outside vendors + outside vendor fees in Mexico can be so outrageous!

I would continue to do your research just in case we got lucky but our photographers came down with us and there were zero issues!

 

I was also anticipating our resort trying to get the vendor fee from us even though our photographers were staying for more than three nights but again, no issues.

 

Better to do the research beforehand then find out when you have no alternatives

Welcome to the boards, and Congrats on your Tulum wedding next spring, emilywhite!!! Tulum has such great laid back ambiance, you're sure to have an amazing wedding celebration there!

 

You're right about being concerned bringing in a photographer with you. It is illegal for someone to come to Mexico and photograph a wedding without proper working papers. The same way people can not just travel to the USA or Canada and work. Cancun airport is aware of this and as you will see... scans all luggage arriving when you go through customs. People traveling with more than one camera will need to answer for the equipment.

We're not trying to scare you... just give you the facts of working in a foreign country.

 

Do you really want to take a chance of ruining your Big Day after all your careful planning and attention to details? Or take the risk of not having a photographer at all ~ and not getting that precious photo story record you would cherish for a lifetime?

It's your choice.

 

You're also right about outside professional photographer and vendor fees being high. I guess you need to decide whether it's worth it, and that may not be an easy decision.
