Hello all!

We have recently started planning our destination wedding for April 2017. We have been talking to a travel agent and we have decided on Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. We are going today to get all the information on pricing and deposits and such. My question is because the wedding is in 9 months and we're going to need deposits sooner then later is it better to send invitations now with all the info since we will have it or should I just send save the dates? I'm going to want to give the travel agents name and phone number and the dates and hotel. Has anyone done save the dates with your wedding website on it then on the website put the travel agents info and give all the information you have on that?

We sent out save the dates about 10 months out with our wedding website link. All the travel info was on our website before we sent them out. Some guests did start contacting the travel agent early on, and some waited until the last minute. we sent the invitations out a little more than 3 months in advance and put the RSVP date as the same date that the travel agent required all reservations to be made (2 months out). We gave guests about 5 weeks to RSVP and we didn't get them all back (even from people who came). I would worry that if you send the invitations out too far in advance, people will forget to RSVP.

Hi @@AliciaW,

My wedding is in April 2017 and I sent my save the dates out last month. I did a passport save the date so I was able to give my guests all the information up front and provided my wedding website on the STDs as well. My travel agent's deadline is the end of January so I am planning on sending my invites out in November with an RSVP date early January. So far I've had a few people contact my travel agent but no one has put down their deposit yet, hopefully someone will soon.

But I agree with DLW0409, if you send your invites out too early people will probably forget to RSVP.

Thank you @@DLW0409 and @@tiffanyt

I think I'm understanding a little more how it works now. I just need to get the deadline from my travel agent and once I have that I know I should send out my invitations a couple months before the deadline. I was feeling very confused about all this save the date and invitation business but I think I get it now.

Are you supposed to put an rsvp in the save the date? Or just in the invitation?

As most of my guests need time to save so that they are able to join us I am sending out my save the dates right away.  This gives everyone a heads up about what to plan for and can give them an idea of how much to save.  Everyone that is invited we really want there so we are doing everything we can to make sure we give everyone the opportunity.

My wedding isn't until May 2018.
