Newbie - Planning A Destination Wedding - Overwhelmed!

Soooo I've almost been dreading being engaged because I know how type A I am and how stressful wedding planning can be. I have heard that destination weddings are not only more affordable but also less stressful so that is what we have decided on....and thats about it. Don't even know where to start, but I feel like as soon as we pick a destination and a venue (some all-inclusive resort) that the rest will be downhill from there. Soooooo that's where I'm at. Any help/suggestions for a beach destination that is affordable would be GREAT! We live in Dallas and so do all of our friends and all of MY family. My fiance's family however, lives in DC. Soooo we just need a great all inclusive family friendly resort that will be enjoyable and affordable for everyone!!

@@Vivthebride Welcome to the forum, where you ca start is simply contacting a Travel agent, I always suggest you look at one that is dedicated to destination wedding. Also you might want to ask yourself what are the amenities resort should have. also what price point do you consider affordable for you and your guests.

Happy Planning

Welcome,

I'm sure you'll hear lots of opinions on this, but I don't think that destination weddings always more affordable and they definitely aren't less stressful. I think the stigma behind them is that you just pick a resort and that's it, but planning is still involved as is looking for vendors, decor etc (photography).

I wish you all the luck with your wedding planning venture and congrats on being engaged! Although it's stressful it's a fun time and I'd do it over again and again if I could.

Hi @Vivthebride!

Congratulations on your engagement!!! Have you ever thing about an amazing and exclusive natural location for your wedding?

Las Caletas is a truly magical place to exchange your vows and celebrate this special occasion. It is our private beach cove in the south bay and is only accessible by sea, giving it the seclusion and ambiance of an island hideaway. It covers an enormous area and features several beaches, a pyramid amphitheater built into the tropical forest and mountain side, various facilities/buildings (spa, kitchens, eating areas/restaurants, bars, restrooms, etc.), and several hundred acres of tropical forest. We have 3 different wedding packages (according to your guests numer).

In Puerto Vallarta, you will find plenty accommodation options in the city, classified from A to Z, by region and by category, comfortable hotels, to luxurious and exclusive resorts.

@Vivthebride  Congrats and welcome! As you can see there is no shortage of help here when it comes to planning a destination wedding! The brides here - past and present - are always willing to pass on information and suggestions!

Absolutely the best place to start is a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings. Depending on your resort and the number of guests you have there might be special perks available and it's only a TA that will know what you qualify for. Picking a resort will be the hardest part. After that, you can have so much fun with it!! A travel agent will help you with your must haves, what you don't want, your budget, your price point for your guests. Even which country works with your wedding vision.

Good luck and happy planning!

I agree - It is just *different* stress than a traditional wedding! Having a DW was DEFINITELY the right choice for us and I wouldn't change it for the world for a million reasons, but if you are type A at all it can be difficult trusting in selections without ever seeing your resort or venue for yourself. You put a fair amount of faith in the wedding coordinators and have to learn to let certain things go.

And then, of course, there is bound to be some drama from family and guests around travel and what not.

Not to discourage you! But I feel like it is best to be prepared for it as you dive into planning. This forum is a great place for support, ideas and encouragement.
