Weather? Wedding In October?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

We are so back and forth. We were initially going to have our wedding in October because we were told its hurriance season but it "only rains for a little bit" and therefore, is cheaper, but when you look at forecasts, its like thunderstorms everyday. Those who have travelling or have had weddings in Jamaica in October, is it okay?

Hello and congratulations on your engagement! Typically hurricane season in the Caribbean is June - October but rain in general in the Caribbean is not uncommon. We've been there in the fall and the weather has been pretty mild, especially compared to the heat in June/July. A storm can come in and move out pretty quickly too, one-minute clouds & rain and then blue skies. Rates are typically lower end of August through October.  Please let us know if you have any additional questions or if you'd like a BDW TA contact you just click on the link below.   TA Patty

I'm an October Jamaica bride and we had spectacular weather the week we were there. We had a brief shower - about 15 minutes - on our wedding day but other than that, it was fabulous.

On the flip side, we're renewing our vows next week in Mexico (Riviera Maya) and the forecast looks horrible. But we've been warned that radar picks up humidity as rain. It can't distinguish so we're hoping that's what is being picked up for next week. No matter what you make the best of it and enjoy it! We had a fabulous rate on our package because it's October so definitely worth it.

Hello- we got married in Montego Bay last week and I was worried about the weather as well. The daily forecast called for 80% chance for thunderstorms every day! It rained once, for 14 minutes, all week :)

In speaking with the locals these quick, early afternoon showers are common but the sun quickly dries everything off.

I'd also add since this is part of their low season the resort wasn't overly crowded which was great for our guests!

Good luck and please let me know if you have any other questions!

It is definitely true that you may get spectacular weather. However, my husband grew up in Jamaica and locals will tell you May and October are definitely their rainiest months. We were there in May before we had set our wedding date and it rained all day everyday, so we picked June instead of May because I was scared of May!

So my point is you just have to be comfortable with the risk, which is slightly higher than normal in October, and be okay with it maybe raining. If rain will ruin your trip, maybe go for a less risky time.

This makes me feel a little better about the forecast for our wedding next week.  Hoping a week out, there could still be some changes in weather.  Glad to hear you had nice weather for yours!

I've been watching it too, here's to hoping we get better weather than what they are reporting!

I was just married in Jamaica on 10/2/15 and was scared of the same.  Let me just say that out of the whole week we were there the morning of my wedding was the only morning that it was pouring down raining.  However as the day went along it began to clear up.  So yes like you've heard, I believe they if and when it rains for the most part  it just passes through and clears up.  Don't worry, your October wedding in Jamaica will be just fine.

Oh also I would say may sure the resort you choose has a nice indoor back up option that you would be happy with. I did that for ours too because I didn't want to get stuck inside in an ugly banquet room with no windows. Ours had a stunning grand staircase off the lobby as a backup location and, as much as we dreamed of getting married with our toes in the sand, we would have been completely fine with that alternative.

But I've seen some brides who had to have their ceremony indoors and were really unhappy with what was available. So just be sure to vet that with your resort so you're comfortable with it!

@@Soon2bmzbrooks congrats on your wedding! I'm glad everything turned out great! That's fantastic!...I would love to see pics of your special day!

KG1990 I've tried to download some pics but I need to take the time to download them again.  I thought it was successful, but it wasn't.  I'd even love to download the video Secrets created.  I'm working on it.
