Catholic Wedding Help & Advice

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I am new to the site and looking to marry next August.  Now, here is my dilemma.  I want a Catholic wedding but have very limited options.  I also have one huge family that surpasses the minimum of 20/40 people for each package I have found.  I also want a private reception (the longer it runs the better, 3 hours minimum.)

I have narrowed it down to the following three resorts:

Dreams Tulum – worry is price per added person, hefty tag

Grand Palladium – have never been to any of their resorts/would be going in blind.

Riu Palace Mexico – Love the Riu chain and but not sure about the chapel

If anyone can give me any feedback on any of the three I would be most appreciative.  I am just trying to have my guests enjoy a great resort abd a beautiful catholic wedding at the same time.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Mirnitap,

TA Wendy here.. Of the 3 resorts you have mentioned.

Dreams likely WOULD be the highest in price but is very nice and I love their chapel.. very Mexican/ Spanish feel, really atmospheric and cute. Very nice resort.

Grand Palladium is a huge complex.. lower prices, and I have worked with many couples who chose this resort and never had a complaint about it.. but it is very big. think golf carts to get you from one side to the other. The chapel there is pretty and large.. more traditional looking, not especially Mexican in feel, but very pretty when decorated with flowers and such.

RIU Palace Mexico - This resort is in the Playacar area.. near to 5th Ave in Playa Del Carmen and lots of fun in the area.. it would price out in the middle between the other two most likely. Their chapel is small, or there is a very cute Catholic chapel right at the end of 5th Ave that I have had couples use.. very sweet chapel and makes for a fun little walk down 5th Ave with your guests and everyone sort of trailing behind and cheering.. If you were to use this I recommend hiring mariachis to walk with you as you exit.. very fun!

There is also a GREAT and very unique chapel at Ixcaret park .. it is sort of underground and exceedingly beautiful. Occidental Grand Ixcaret hotel is right there and very much on the lower end price wise.

I hope that is helpful!

@TA Wendy, thank you so much!  This definitely helps narrow down my decision.  I am leaning toward the Riu due to their ability to accommodate my large group.  The Dreams Tulum is a dream but only if I had a smaller guest count.

A million thanks once again!

@@Mirnitap  Congrats and welcome!

All I can do is second what @TAWendy said because you can guarantee she knows her stuff!! You likely won't get a better straight up answer than what she gave you!

If you want to try and get details about the 3 resorts in terms of what they offer, you could contact Wright Travel directly through this site and TA Wendy, and you could also type into the search bar at the top and read the tons of threads that will come up. There are just too many to add here. Reading is the best way to go through the site because I can almost guarantee that whatever questions you have, another bride has asked the same questions at some point in time so the answers are likely here if you read through.

Good luck and happy planning!!

Thank you all!  I greatly appreciate all the info.

@TA Wendy I love love love the idea of having the wedding at the 5th Avenue Church, however, Riu Palace Mexico would still be charging me the same rate whether I have a ceremony on site or not.  I just heard back from their Wedding Coordinator.  This particular Riu does not give the option of Catholic Weddings or to have one onsite from what I was told.  Please advise if you know any different.

At this point I am considering Dreams Tulum.

Thanks again.

Hello Mirnitap!

I will recommand you Palladium! They offer really nice packages (most of them are for 20 pers but you can pay for each extra person). You can also pay an extra and have a private reception! I saw the wedding planners working and they are really professionnals.

The resort in general is beautiful!!!!! I've been to the Grand Palladium Jamaica and in Mexico. The food is amazing, great entertainment in the  night, also a good place if you have kids. I'll recommand you this Resort! Have you an idea of the destination?

Hello all!  Here is a quick update.  The date has been set for an August wedding at Dreams Tulum.  The deciding factors were hotel size and especially the ability to hold a Catholic Ceremony.  The Riu was not able to accommodate one and the Palladium was beautiful but too big for our guests.  We want to give everyone the feel of a smaller resort.  Dreams Tulum just had it all.

The service so far has been outstanding.  There was an issue with the Priest two months after securing my deposit and they were able to remedy it in no time.  I have received answers to all of my questions in a timely manner and look forward to the planning!  Any questions feel free to ask.

Best,

Mirna Perez
