Booking At A Brand New (Not Yet Open) Resort

Hi Brides!

We have been looking through so many websites, magazines and brochures to find our perfect location. We think we finally found it, but the resort is brand new. Like not even open yet, brand new. It is set to open December 2015 and we are looking to book May 2016. I am super nervous to book anything and wondering if anyone else out there has gone through the process of booking somewhere so new.

Appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks!!!

Congrats and welcome!

I believe there have been a couple of brides here that have booked at a resort that had just opened or was still in the process of opening. The Royalton Resort in Riviera Maya comes to mind but hopefully someone will chime in with their experience.

You're definitely taking a risk with a brand new resort but not a risk that is insurmountable. There are always little kinks that need to be worked out in a new resort - I would definitely say keep that in mind. Other than that, I would recommend talking to your travel agent. They're the ones that would be familiar with the resort chain and how well they do with new openings. Iberostars are good resorts that I've heard but definitely keep an eye on the reviews before you leave. Sometimes it takes a bit longer to get everything functioning up to speed.

Good luck!

I second @@acw271011

Iberostar has a great name so I would think and hope that they have the experience to pull off an opening with minor kinks. Kinks are to be expected and really can happen at the most seasoned resort.

I agree to talk to your travel agent and also reach out to

The resort and see about wedding packages and the like. They both should be able to help.

Where is playa pilar?

Good luck.

I agree that if it is an Iberostar that probably can put you at ease a little bit. We booked an unopened resort once just for vacation and it was amazing - we got a HUGE discount for booking before it opened and we never would have been able to afford the resort otherwise!

I think the biggest thing is to know yourself. Are you, what I like to call, a "control enthusiast" (control freak sounds so bad! haha)? If so, that just might push you over the edge. There are so many wild cards when planning a destination wedding - most of us have never been to our resorts before the wedding - and the coordinators tend to be pretty laid back about your day until a couple months out. That can be hard for many brides in and of itself, so add a NEW resort to the mix where it is hard to find past brides or reviews to help and it could be challenging for your state of mind. If you're a "wing it" kind of person and you can let the details go and trust that it'll all work out, I think you could get a really great deal. Even my resort (also an Iberostar) that does weddings every single day had some hiccups and issues so I think the resort being new will probably just be about the same! It won't be perfect, but none of them are :)

Good luck and happy planning!

Thanks for all the feedback.

I've had numerous e-mails back and forth with our travel agent and she assures me that she has dealt with many openings and 6 months into a new resort we should be good. She trusts the Iberostar name and has 30 years in the industry backing her up.

We haven't booked yet, but very close to pressing 'GO'.
