Yoga style

I'm reviving this thread because I went to my very first Bikram Hot Yoga class yesterday! I've done Vinyasa yoga & loved it. I haven't been to any yoga class in almost 6 months.

Can I just say - WHOA! That class was extremely challenging. I think the largest challenge was just staying in a 110 degree room for 90 minutes. Also, once you start sweating, its hard to maintain any of the poses that require skin to skin contact - like eagle pose & tree pose - I kept slipping. Is there some secret here??

There we a few times I got very light headed/dizzy & had to recoup in shavasana. And absorbing all of the verbal info constantly coming at me was different. Apparently that is to be expected for newbies. Overall, it was very challenging, cleansing, balancing. I'm going back for my 2nd class in about an hour! I figure doing something that is hard, but good for me, is better than some of the things I'm dealing with that are hard & not good for me.

OK, second class done. Today I felt stronger, it was more about accomplishing each pose today instead of surviving the heat. Immediately after class I feel an amazing euphoria and calmness; also it feels like my lung capacity has doubled!

Heidi - if you are out there - is it normal to feel dog tired after Bikram classes? About 4 hours after class I could not wait to lay down! I took an hour nap & am still down. I don't feel bad, just really tired.

I've heard that Bikram yoga can make you really sick after your first time or two... something about flushing out all of the toxins... did you get sick?

No, I didn't get sick. Just really hungry & tired. I think it must be flushing all kinds of toxins...the sweat factor is amazing!

Well Tara, if it makes you feel any better, it took me almost 5 months before I found this place! I think my body & mind really needed it, so I found the place finally!

My mom thinks doing hot yoga is crazy. I'm giving it a chance. Esp in this cold weather, warming up those muscles is a lot easier in a hot room!

Brett and I did a 6 week course once and I loved it. I'm getting ready to sign up for a package at a place a few blocks from our house.
