Definitely tough.  I had some tan lines I am not going to lie, but overall I think I did ok.

I just applied SPF 60 every hour or two.   Unless you stay in your room there isn't much more you can do.... unless you avoid the sun outside (find a lounger with a shade cover), bring a large floppy hat, etc.

I was super careful in Jamaica and still burnt! And you can see it in the pics. We arrived on Saturday, got married on thursday then had to fly home on Saturday. Definitely too short. Plus, I was on special arthritis meds at the time and we had to travel with an injectable dose. Well it was a switch from another one and only the second shot. Doug gave me the shot and I had a reaction so I have a big red patch on my arm in all the pictures where I'm standing facing that way! lol

I would just do like @@calgarybride2015 suggested and use a strong sunscreen for the first few days or just be on a lounger in the shade.

What about a spray tan prior to going. I was considering it so help prevent being pasty white in the sun when we got there which would also help prevent a burn. Any other brides done this?

I burnt my first time tropical. Like a lobster. (See my Mexico 2013 pics on Facebook). I was using SPF 15 and 30 Cause my friend said that's all I needed. I quickly learned to use SPF 60 and nothing else lol.

@@acw271011 ugh I'm sure your meds didn't help either.

So these legal ceremonies don't really seem to operate how I imagined.  Sean and I thought we'd just walk up to a counter at City Hall, have a couple of witnesses, sign some papers, walk out legally married.  Turns out that's not the case (for any of you who haven't looked in to/experienced this yet).  We got the license and that was easy enough (except the part where she made us put our Starbucks off to the side... we both kept looking at our coffees longingly at the end of the counter).  But then she hands us a pamphlet for some heritage house place and says we can do it there, or at a similar place downtown.  It's not expensive, $220.  She said to go take a look because some people don't like the décor.   We laughed and told her how little we cared for that.

So I just tried to call this Heritage House, and this ancient man answered the phone and gave me this long and cranky explanation of why I would have to call him back.  So that's where we're at now.  I'm aiming for September 12th.  (Matching date of the month to the Symbolic wedding to make things easier to remember).  We don't have rings or anything though!  I asked Sean if he would want to invite his parents and he said "nah."  So it's probably going to be just us and a couple we asked to be our witnesses wearing nothing spectacular.  Maybe I'll buy a little dress that I can also wear on vacation.

@@JoannaBanana haha I love that the toughest part of this process was having to put the Starbucks aside. That would be  my FI and I too haha. I was in the same thought as you thinking we could just go to city hall and be done with it until I discovered this site. I'm going to start planning that part of the wedding stuff soon I think. Once I can get my FI's attention haha (renovations control his life right now)

I hope you can get Sept 12! That will be so exciting and its so soon! yay!
