Help With Location

Recommended Posts

Hi:

My fiance and I got engaged in October and we are planning a July 2016 destination wedding.  I am new to this and have no experience with event planning, let alone destination planning.  My primary concern is finding a venue.  We are planning on having approximately 30 guests and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.  Below is what I'm looking for:

- anywhere in Mexico or the Carribbean (in reasonable distance from both NY and CA)

- small, boutique resort with 100 rooms or less

- non-touristy location (I'm not interested in hotels located among strips of other hotels)

- beach-front hotel

- preferably with villas for some guests (i.e., beachfront standalone villa with direct access to the beach from the room)

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

My secondary concern is finding a travel agent.  I've read that I should have all guests book through one travel agent.  But, I have no idea how to find one or where to even begin my search.  I am in NYC, if that matters.  Again, any suggestions or places to start are most welcome.

Thanks everyone.

Hi congrats and welcome to the forum!

You will definitely find a lot of great info on this website, everyone is wonderful!

Definitely best to start with by finding a travel agent and narrowing down a location. Finding the resort is hard, for my finance and I took months and went through a couple of agents. The owners of the site are also travel agents and everyone has said great things about them.

For what your looking at for type of location/ boutique type resort you should definitely look into Tulum, Mexico (near Riviera Maya). There is All sorts of different smaller resorts, not chains and different price ranges. We are going to a hotel called Nueva Vida de Ramiro in Tulum for our honeymoon and it has lots of different beach huts and villas spread out along the beach, very private and rates range from $105-350/night depending on type of room. If I hadn't already found my resort for my wedding I might've chose that one! http://tulumnv.com/en/weddings.html

Good luck!

Congrats and welcome to BDW! This is definitely a great site for details on planning a destination wedding and the brides both past and present are very happy to share their experiences.

I can definitely help you with one of the things you're looking for. The administrators of this site are DW specialists and I'm sure would be able to help you out with information. Here is the link to contact them:

I'm afraid I can't help with resort info but I'm sure one of the TAs at Wright will be able to get you started with information.

Good luck and happy planning!
