Calgary Brides/ Bridesmaid Dress Nightmare

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I just wanted to share my experience at Cameo & Cufflinks in Calgary with you as I am just so so upset. We purchased 3 dresses there and we had issues over and over with them.

Long story short they told one of the girls to go up a size cause her bust measured a size 16. We get the dress and she's swimming in it! The bust also had to be take in 2 inches!! The alterations are costing her MORE than what she paid for the actual dress.

She tried to talk to the store and they kept saying it wasn't their fault and that the seamstress is probably over charging her. I was really upset and got on the phone and told her straight out that I was furious and asked her to explain to me that if her bust measured a size 16 why it has to be taken in 2 whole inches!! Her response was simply I don't know I don't have the dress here in front of me. Turns out I was speaking with the owner! She wasn't apologetic and didn't seem to care. I ended up hanging up on her as she was just talking over me. My wedding is 2 weeks away and I'm just stressed!! The dresses were not cheap and now there's an added cost of $320! The seamstress has to take in 2 inches at the bust, 3 at the waist and 4 off the bottom! Has anyone else experienced this?!

So just beware if you are considering shopping there.

I'm really sorry you're getting put through this so close to your wedding. It wouldn't hurt to contact the better business bureau and file a complaint with them, and also with the newspaper help line. I know there is one here and then there is Goldhawk as well. I really don't think you should have to pay if the store made that much of an error when they measured and ordered the dress. I know there isn't anything you can do about it right now so close to your wedding and you really don't need this added stress at all, but maybe you can see about doing something when you get back.

All the best for your wedding and I hope it's everything that you want it to be!

Omg!!! Thanks for the heads up! I had an issue with David's Bridal but they were willing to order me another dress. The manager talked me thru why they chose the size they did blah blah and in the end I agreed and had it taken out instead.

That said, your experience was terrible! I'm so sorry you are dealing with this so close to your big day! I agree with Ann that you could file with the BBB. At the very least you are heard. I've done that in the past with fast rectification.

Good luck hun. And congrats on your wedding!!

Thanks all! I will do just that! I did write a review on Facebook and the owner commented and basically said that they ordered the correct size and she understands that this is a stressful time! Which just rattles me and I'm a little insulted! Lol it is what it is and I won't let it get me down this close to my wedding. I will be helping my friend pay for the alterations $320 is just way too much! Thanks for the advice :)

Unfortunately from what I heard it is common to "scam" people with these in order to get money for alterations. I got measured for a bridemaid dress and it's coming in mail and I expect it's going to be huge unfortunately but didn't want to risk ordering smaller one. Ugh

Ya I've heard a lot of stories lately it's just discouraging cause we're spending a lot on the dresses alone! They tried to get my sis in law to go up a size and she fought them and sure enough the smaller size fit her perfectly! Well fingers crossed for you that it doesn't cost you and arm and a leg to alter!!!

Oh my, I'm so sorry that you had to deal with this so close to your wedding. I hope everything was resolved and you had the wedding of your dreams. Alterations are so expensive and sometimes the stores don't own up to what they sold you. My mom had a similar experience with her dress, but at a different store.

@Andrea2015  Happy wedding day tomorrow! In spite of the dress drama, I hope it's everything you hoped for and more! I'll second what calgarybride2015 said - I hope you come back and provide a review and pictures!
