Yycbride2016 Grand Sirenis Planning Thread February 2016

@@vancouverpetunia thanks so much! I know right, time is flying now!

@@calgarybride2015 the no hangover part may have been my favorite part. Last night was kyles bachelor party and he is a trainwreck today with his hangover. So glad I didn't have that. We are still flip flopping on honeymoon ideas. I'm such a princess and really want a 10 day trip but Kyle is pushing the 7 day idea :(

I know @ it's so crazy! Everyone's weddings seem to have come and gone already and it's Almost my turn, it's so hard to believe.

So not much to update on. Kyle had his bachelor party last night and it sounds like he had lots of fun but he is also paying for it today haha.

My bridal shower is next Sunday and I'm really looking forward to it. It is mostly kyles aunts since I'm closer with them than my own. But it will be a really fun time I think just to have all the ladies together. Then apparently it's the super bowl 50 or something after that so my party is at kyles parents house then he will come over and we'll spend the day there. I'm not a football fan but I can just drink wine with kyles mom and do some last minute planning haha.

I've been flip flopping on this idea of getting my makeup done vs doing it myself. If I do it myself I save a fair amount of money but I'm worried it won't be what I wanted. I've been learning and practicing so much for the past few months but I've also read lots about bridal makeup and flashback from flash photography. While Kyle was at his bachelor party last night I did a trial run and then tested it out with flash vs no flash. My face turns white because of the makeup I used. I don't really want to spend any more money on makeup as I've done that a lot lately haha. What was your experience? I know that we won't use flash much because of sunlight but I'm so torn. Here is what it looks like and some pics of what I want my makeup to look like: post-283167-145429702127_thumb.jpgpost-283167-145429704151_thumb.jpgpost-283167-145429705668_thumb.jpg

And now I'm torn on nails after seeing@@Wafflesmom get her nails done I'm second guessing what I wanted to do. This was what I originally wanted post-283167-145429711468_thumb.jpg

But then I tried these fake stick on nails this weekend: post-283167-145429714617_thumb.jpg

So I'm thinking of maybe a combination of the two? Like this? post-283167-145429716676_thumb.jpg. Thoughts??

Kyle started to build our cupcake stand for the AHR so I'll take a pic when it's done. I also got my fake marriage certificate made to bring with us to Mexico to "fool" people into thinking it is a legal wedding.

I also got my lingerie now too! My colleagues gave me $100 to Victoria secret so I bought surprising fly a fair Amount of fun things for the wedding week! I also did a boudoir photo shoot this weekend using a lot of the new items as a surprise wedding gift for Kyle! I'm so excited to see how they turned out. I was super nervous though, it's way out of my comfort zone but the photographer was really great and made it feel like I was just hanging out with a girlfriend.

Slowly getting there with less than 3 weeks to go!!! Ahhhh!!!

@@yycbride2016 I'm not sure what to suggest about the make-up. I'm not exactly a make-up expert myself! I would think that your photographer will be able to work with (and/or edit) your complexion. That said, professional make-up will probably last longer and really highlight your features. But I get the added cost. I'm lucky that it's included in my wedding package. I do think the two examples that you posted are gorgeous :)

I really like the last set of nails you posted. I think they are a bit more elegant than the original ones. Are you going to get fake nails done? Or just gel? I am thinking of doing something like the photo below. I actually had it done for Christmas a year ago and I loved it. Kind of the reverse of the last photo above.

Glad you had fun with the boudoir shoot. I don't think I could do it!

Enjoy your shower and your football party lol Hope you get spoiled!

Looks like your pretty good at doing your own makeup! If I could do my own and knew it would look good I'd definitely save the money...but that's not the case for me. There's also something about being able to relax and have it all taken care of that I like. If you're looking to save, I'd do it yourself because it looks great. If money isn't a big factor then pamper yourself. I think you'll appreciate one less thing to worry about :)

I really like the design of the second nails. I have zero experience win stick on nails though so no advice for you there. Typically I'm a shellac girl so that's 100% what I'll be doing. I also really like the design in @vancouverpeutunia photo. You girls have me thinking sparkle is a must. I would have just gone with a blush or something.

Very brave of you to do a boudoir shoot - I would never have the courage. Kyle will love that gift!

Hey! Don't be too worried about the flash. Lancelotti doesn't use on camera flash, he has an assistant with stand alone flash. I know it sounds funny, but makes a massive world of difference in photography. You will never have flash beaming onto your face the way that your cell phone is. I did my own makeup and was more than happy with it. I typically enjoy a more natural look and I found a good balance for my wedding day. I practiced a lot as well and in the end I was happy with how it looked in person and in the pictures. :)

@@vancouverpetunia thanks for the suggestions. I'm still so undecided. I'm not worried about the cost since I will only get married once. I've been testing out the longevity of my makeup too and that isn't an issue. I worked out for an hour yesterday (30 min weight lifting and 30 min intense cardio) and my makeup still looked great after that. And I did my makeup at 5:45am, finished my workout at 9:30PM. As for nails, those ones you pictures are so pretty. I'm a silver girl so I will defiantly want a silver sparkle. And yes I won't be doing stick on. They are useless. I will be doing gel nails. I love shellac but I find it peels a bit with sunscreen. So I'm going with gel this time.

@@ashhtayy I agree. Getting my makeup would be relaxing and I loved having it done at my bachelorette party. But I'm also a control freak and would probably panic if the makeup artist missed a step that I would normally so to ensure my makeup lasts haha. I'm not worried about the money it's more the control freak in me wondering if they will do a good job. @@calgarybride2015 looked amazing with her makeup from the resort but I want something a little more dramatic than hers so I don't have a good reference of their skills. And yes I'm really hoping Kyle likes the photos and doesn't just think it's weird. I was so nervous about doing them.

@ thanks for the info on Lancelotti. That's good to know. I feel like I'd be happy if I did it myself but also be worried it would just look like my usual makeup and nothing different. I know Kyle likes a more natural look but he also knows I want a more glam look for the day. I'm so torn. I have to decide soon too . I actually re-creeped all your photos to check out your makeup before you said all this and to check for flash photography and what not. You looked so amazing and you are definitely right that I don't need to worry about flash photography. Thanks :)

@@yycbride2016 No worries! I actually went pretty 'light' on my makeup in comparison to what I could have done. I really just felt like I had a killer tan and I really didn't 'need' a ton of makeup. I had my eyelash extensions which add glam in itself and then I just did some basic contouring, my eyebrows and of course my eyeshadow and liner. If you want it to look more prominent i'd just say to make your makeup a bit more dramatic for the photos.

The only thing I'd really use a makeup artist for is if I wanted an airbrush. In this particular case I really didn't want one because it would hide my freckles and my freckles are kind of what makes me, me!

@@yycbride2016 Wow - that's impressive longevity on your makeup :) If you do decide to get your makeup done at the resort, I think you can show them the photos and they should be able to replicate it pretty closely - to make sure you get whatever "glam" effect you want. I'm sure they can adjust from very natural to very, well, unnatural LOL

Also, I think I may have done silver when I did those nails - that's more me as well. I haven't noticed shellac peeling with sunscreen, but then I'm not sure if I have had shellac when on a tropical vacation before. Hmmm... shellac was my plan.

@ Awwhh freckles. So cute :)

Hey!

I asked for little makeup and very natural!! If you show them those pics I am sure they could replicate. Make sure you get Carmen or Isis. And they will do whatever until you are happy! My sisters makeup wasn't very 'thick' haha as she had a third artist and wasn't happy so mine fixed her right up :) I could never do mine myself so I have no experience there sorry!

Love the second pic of nails you posted too. I had something very similar except my sparkle at the edge of the white wasn't as thick. I'd probably go for gel/shellac over stick on In case they don't hold well -- that said I'm sure they've come along way since I used them in grade school hehe. I know those jam berries stick well!

Have fun at your shower :)

@ I noticed your makeup! I thought you might have done it yourself since your trekked were so noticeable and cute! I love freckles! I wish I had more haha.

@@vancouverpetunia I think I'm probably going to do it myself but I'm pretty much going to wait till the last minute to decide. I think shellac is still good! You just have to be sure to wash your hand right after applying sunscreen and bug spray or it can wreck them. I had them last year in Mexico and it was completely fine!

@@calgarybride2015 that makes sense then. Your makeup was so pretty and really suited you so it was a good choice to go natural! Thanks for the tips on who to go with! That's helpful if I decide to let them do it. I definitely won't do the stick on ones. I did the stick on for my sisters wedding and they all popped off the next day haha.

Update:

Our vow books arrived!!!! I'm so happy. I was paranoid that they were going to arrive and be super tiny. But they are the perfect size and so cute! This makes it so real though. I think I need to sit down and just write these darn vows this weekend. I'm horrible and mushy sentimental things but that's exactly what I want mine to be like hahah. Any tips on writing my own vows? post-283167-145469509417_thumb.jpg

Also I'm panicking a bit about the aisle and shoes. They either have these 15 wooden planks to walk down the aisle to or a while cloth runner (or nothing). I have stilettos to wear because I couldn't find wedges I liked. And everytime I go shoe shopping I look but never see anything if want to wear for the ceremony. Help! What do I do? I'm so confused! I thought maybe barefoot but then my dress would be too long. This is the wooden plank aisle, but I think I'd still trip in the cracks haha: post-283167-145469521986_thumb.jpg

Our legal ceremony is in 14 days, we leave for Mexico in 15 days, and our wedding day is in 18 days!!! I'm so full of emotions now! So excited, nervous, anxious, everything?!?!

Haha thanks. As much as I wanted to look glam on my day, I also wanted to look like myself.

I love the wooden planks! Those look so cute. I would honestly say to just go barefoot.. Is it that much longer if you go barefoot?

Your dress is going to drag in the sand regardless. My dress was the perfect length when I had no shoes on and too short when I did have shoes on and with the sand being so uneven and sinking in it, I was dragging my dress through it at all times that I was on the beach.
