Yycbride2016 Grand Sirenis Planning Thread February 2016

Recommended Posts

Hi! I finally got some time to post on people's threads. I saw the pictures of your dress and it's gorgeous :), now I know what you meant when you said that my dress was along the lines of what you wanted, they do have very similar styles ;). Great minds think alike! haha. I agree that the veil totally adds to the whole look. I'm totally biased because of course I'm wearing one :). I just think it goes really well with your dress.

Thank you so much! I’m so happy. One less thing to worry about!

Yeah! I love the second veil too! I’m hoping when I go back at the end of summer to pick up the dress that veil will still be there and at a large discount. She was willing to give it to me for $100 but I knew places like Etsy and eBay sell them cheaper.

Thanks! It was totally a say yes to the dress moment. I never really understood why brides cry when they find the right dress but I get it now. It was so exciting to know it was my dress!

Thanks! Yeah it’s a similar type of style to your dress that I was going for. I love that it makes me look taller than I am with the lace trickling down the dress. Agreed on the veil. I’m hoping I can get a good deal on this one when I go back to pick up my dress at the end of summer. I just love how the tulle bottom of the dress goes with the veil perfectly!

Wow - I think $100 is a pretty good price! lol Do they have others at that price?? Was that just because of your dress - I know sometimes they'll bundle if you're buying your dress from them.

@@acw271011 It's because the store is closing so they are trying to get rid of all inventory. It was 50% off. But I think if its still there in August it will be 70% off. So I'm going to keep my eye on it!

Update:

Not too much to update here. I feel like things have been slowing down now with my wedding planning. I am almost done making my wedding invitations! I have about 4 left to make. I ran out of ribbon to tie on the starfish charms right at the end of making them all haha. They look really cute with they are all done and packaged up with a teal starfish stamp on the back of the envelope. I haven't given out lots yet but just to people as I see them (since there is no rush seeing as my wedding is over 7 months away). But so far the feedback I've been getting is very positive. Everyone says they are really cute! Hard work pays off! haha

I had another Michaels extravaganza the other day though haha. instead of doing the raffia starfish chair hangers that I intended on making, I found these burlap tassels ($3) that are a little bit smaller than the raffia starfish chair hangers. I'm going to tie some teal burlap string and starfish onto each of them. I have 8 of them (so hopefully I'll have no more than 4 rows down the aisle. Then I will re-use these for the dinner on the wedding party chairs! I also found cute little chalkboards to hang on our chairs that will say Mrs. and Mr. for my FI and I! They were only like $1 at Michaels. I'll post pictures once I actually make everything. It will probably be a fair amount of work since I have no idea what I'm doing haha.

We've also decided that as a guest book we are going to do a "Message in a bottle". I found the PERFECT teal colored bottle that looks like glass but is actually plastic which is great for travel. It unscrews in the middle so will easily be able to read everyones messages. We are going to put a note for people to leave us a message in the bottle for us to read on our 1year anniversary! It should be really cute! I'm going to jazz up the bottle by adding some burlap string to it. I'll post pictures once its made.

My bridesmaids dresses arrived on Friday too! They are so nice! I can't wait to see all of the girls in their dresses. And my mum was such an angel! She paid for the bridesmaids dresses for the girls! She wanted to do something nice for them since they have to spend so much money to come to Mexico for the wedding. They don't know that their dresses have been paid for yet so I'm excited to tell them!! Annnnnddddd.... all that bridesmaid drama?! When I saw her at my dress appointment she was talking about coming and saying she was actually going to go for longer (like 10 days or 2 weeks). So I'm so excited that I don't have to stress about that any more! Smooth sailing from here on out!

the veil is probably the easiest thing to get! There might be brides out there who even sell theirs, so you might be able to find a good deal, even if it's not at the bridal store ;). I only got mine right away because it was 10% off ifI got the with the dress. Looking back, I would have been just as happy with a simpler veil and I probably would have spent a little less on it, but oh well. I think you made the right choice in waiting a little longer :)

We did a message in a bottle guest book as well! We are going to read them on our 1st anniversary. However, we were at dinner with 10 friends last night and found out that NONE of them put a message in - some of them missed it completely, which is a bummer because it was on the table with the escort cards and it was also announced at the reception. The bottle was full so some people did it - I would just say make sure you announce it a couple times and maybe also have it out at any other event you do during the trip.

I agree with @@beckys98 announce it a few times! We had our postcard guestbook announced atleast 3 times and most of my family didn't sign one. I sent them some back in January and still not done lol. That's par for the course though.

That said my husbands mom did a time capsule for us and I think a lot of people contributed to that so we will enjoy that in 5 years :) only 4.5 to go hehe

Message in the bottle is a great idea :)
