Diadiamond's Planning Thread - Iberostar Varadero, Cuba - Sept.24.2015

I second the fact that PCOS will get better! Mine was a bit all over the place at first, with a lot of new symptoms showing up. I guess I had a bit of weight issues when I was 13/14 and I first got diagnosed, but then they seemed to settle down. I was never super overweight but I was definitely bigger and I remember that it didn't matter what I ate (or didn't eat) my weight wouldn't change. It was a tough time. My mom would suggest all these diets which were all terrible and made me feel so grumpy. I find that exercising regularly and somewhat watching what I eat has been enough for now to balance things out. No special diets or depriving yourself of things. I didn't find this side of me until I got to university though and that's when I started noticing changes in the symptoms, the hair stopped growing as much, periods weren't as painful, the weight is normal. So, it takes time to get used to a chronic condition and finding what works, but you'll get there. I'm sure it will take you less time than me, after all teenagers are all about instant gratification and I couldn't care less about my PCOS back in the day.

@@acw271011 I don't know if this is everyone's experience, but I find every 3 or 4 years my hormones go out of whack for a month or two and then they go back to normal. I don't know if this is even a proven fact or just my own experience.

@diadiamond  I think I might be confused. Is the dress you're wearing the first picture? That's the lace one right?

@TinkerSofi  Mine was diagnosed when I was about 17. You have to remember - back then they didn't really know what PCOS was. The pill was the answer to everything "female" because it regulated your hormones, or so they said. I didn't tolerate it well. They didn't have the technology they do now in terms of seeing the cysts and deciding what to do about them. I had them constantly. It wasn't really an issue until I started trying to have kids. I was skinny almost my entire life until I hit early 20s, again when I was trying to get pregnant. I would go months and months without a cycle and then think I was pregnant but get negative results. Because I was so long in between cycles that's when the weight gain started. Not dramatic but enough that it was more than I usually weighed. It wasn't until I was just over 30 and the first cancer that they discovered and "labelled" the PCOS. I went through the cancer treatment and things settled for quite a number of years after that. I had to have my appendix out and that's when they found another tumor but I was in my 40s by then so the natural progression was a complete hysterectomy. I was able to keep half of one ovary just keep hormones regulated as much as possible but I'll tell you, it was the best thing I ever did. My cycles for a long time were terrible but that I think was the worst for me. The pill now can be one of the best things because it stops the cause of the cysts which is ovulation, and it has progressed so much now compared to when I needed to be on it.

Absolutely it can be managed but with a good doctor's care - one that is engaged with your symptoms and monitors you regularly. Once you have that then the days are definitely a whole lot better!

@@acw271011 Yes, the dress I'll be wearing for my wedding is the lace one =)  Sorry for the confusion.

Bridal Shower:

I was hoping I would have time last week to post this, but life got in the way =p  We've been busy trying to sort and organize our apartment.  Last week was my bridal shower and we got a TON of gifts that we are thankful for, but wondering where to put them in our apartment.

Last Sunday was my Bridal Shower and it was amazing!  My friends, bridesmaids, mom, and family put so much work into it and it definitely paid off.  I was so overwhelmed by the love and work that went into it all.  I initially didn't want a bridal shower because I didn't want anyone to go through the trouble of spending money on gifts or anything because we are asking people to pay so much to come to our wedding.  When I asked my mom (who just bought a new house) she had said no because she didn't have the money for it.  I thought of throwing one for myself, but then I didn't have the money because I wasn't working at the time.

When it came to my wedding I felt that I had to skip a lot of the traditions that I wanted because people have to pay so much to attend my wedding and I felt like they wouldn't want to be burdened with the little things that can be done at home (bridal shower, bachelor party, ect.).  I have some family members that are pressuring me into things because they have to pay so much to come to my wedding, so they want a say in it (the timeline, ceremony, ect.).

Anyways, back to my Bridal Shower =p  It was fantastic!  My cousins made/bought all of my favourite pastries and they made all these beautiful little touches!  It was an Alice in Wonderland Tea Party Theme.  Instead of a guestbook everyone signed a tea pot I kept as a keepsake, we had games with prizes, lots of food, I got amazing gifts (which I really didn't expect, but I am so grateful for), and most importantly a lot of people got to meet before we head down for the wedding.

It really hit me at my Bridal Shower that I am getting married really soon and I couldn't be happier!

53 days till my wedding and still so much to do!post-276748-0-56338300-1438607180_thumb.jpgpost-276748-0-48297300-1438607203_thumb.jpgpost-276748-0-61859500-1438607247_thumb.jpg

Aww, I love it. I was also on the fence about the bridal shower because of the gifts thing. However, my mom really wanted to throw me one so I did. I didn't really do it for the gifts, I wanted people to get a chance to mingle before the wedding and I wanted us to have some fun, which we did and it was great :)

Isn't it weird when it just hits you all of a sudden? I was kind of scared first, now I can't wait and I'm so excited!

It's so close now, yay!! Enjoy, this is where things get crazy!

Awe love it. The idea is fantastic and looks like she did a fabulous job. The tea pot guest book idea is awesome. A nice keepsake.

For both you ladies it'll be here before you know it.

@@TinkerSofi  I was really hesitant about the gifts thing because I already live with my fiance and we already have everything.  I also decided to go through with it so that everyone can meet.  In retrospect it was a great idea everyone had fun and no one seemed awkward or anything.

It is really weird when it hits you all of a sudden lol.  I'm so used to going to other peoples Bridal Showers and weddings that it was so weird to have the attention on me.

How are you feeling?  You're leaving on Sunday, right?  I'm so excited for you!!!

@@calgarybride2015  Thanks hun!  I know it feels so surreal.

@@acw271011 Thanks hun!  I thought it was so cute!  I know time is just flying by.  Your vow renewal is coming up really soon too!

@@diadiamond I didn't realize you were so close to your date!  So exciting.  Love red!  That was my first choice too.

Your bridal shower was so cute :)  I love how excited the Mom's get!  Mine isn't until February and my Mom already ordered the invitations and a banner.

Hopefully you have some time to update us on everything before the big day/week, I'll keep watching your forum :) xo

@ Thanks hun!  Haha I ended up eating so many sweets!  Everyone knows sugar is my weakness =p I started reading you planning thread and I love it so far!

@@deecol Thanks hun!  It feels really surreal!  What's your wedding colour?  It's so sweet to see how excited Mom's get.  Mine had me believing I wasn't having one at all.  Thanks for reading =)  I've done a lot of stuff that I haven't shared yet, but I'm trying to space it out.  My goal is to update weekly until I leave and then when I get back too.  My biggest regret waiting so long to start my planning thread as I'm finding that they are a great way to meet other brides, get feedback on ideas, and bounce ideas around.

Did you start your planning thread yet? I would love to read it.  I'm obsessed with planning threads lol

It is very weird to have all the attention on you. Yesterday at the legal ceremony I felt very weird at first and then I kind of relaxed haha, even though it was just my parents and two family friends who are like my aunt and uncle. Then my family from Argentina was on skype watching from home :). I think it was good practice for when I have 30 people looking at me the next time we do this haha.

It was great how people got along, now I'm not so nervous about trying to "entertain" people while in Mexico. I know it's silly to think that i'd have to, but I always worry whether people are having fun haha.
