Weird question for you ladies. I asked for blue orchids (dendrobium orchids) and was told they aren't available locally. I get it and I'm not surprised. But my WC told me they could paint white orchids blue!?!  Has anyone tried this or seen this? I worry that it would look fake or tacky or might wear off on my dress. The WC did say that the paint is not toxic (as I had asked about flowers on the cake as well). Here an example of the bouquet that I asked about:

I'm thinking it's probably a better approach to find some local blue flowers, but thought I would ask to see if anyone has run across this before. I did really want the orchids!  :( But any suggestions for other blue flowers would be welcome (haven't asked the WC yet).

Me me me!!! The blue roses in my bouquet were painted. This is a VERY common practice :) Color didn't rub off and honestly I had a guest argue with me they were truly blue. It wasn't evident until they started to bloom I was right!! Looked totally legit. Lol

Edit -- that said I didn't have any roses close to my dress so maybe run that past the WC. She would know because if it happened I am sure the bride would have complained.

Huh! Who would have thought? Are they actually painted or are they dyed (like they sometimes do here with carnations)? Thanks for the reassurance, although I still think I will ask about locally available blue flowers. Just to explore options.

I assume painted because the word 'painted' was used in our flower catalogue. For certain flowers they offered original colors and painted colors. That said I can't say with certainty unless I asked.

it's a special floral spray almost like a paint, that colours the flowers. You wouldn't know as calgarybride2015 said that the colour isn't really what the spray colour is. They do it here too. If I remember I think I had a spray colour in my flowers as well. I'll go back and take a look.

Just be sure you're dealing with someone reputable. I do remember someone back when we were doing our wedding that had her flowers sprayed a specific colour and it did come off on her dress. I have no idea why because I have never heard of that ever. I think they have to be sprayed a certain amount of time in advance. I don't even remember which bride it was back then. I've never heard of it since then either but it was blue. that much I do remember. I wouldn't worry though to be honest. I think any of the resorts, if that was to happen, would take care of it pretty quickly.
