Calling For Rain On Your Wedding Day?!

Starting to panic...

It wouldn't be too big of a deal to me if I had planned for all wedding events to be indoors, but I didn't.

In fact, I decided against having a ton of flowers (1. we can't take them home with us. 2. I won't get to enjoy them very much afterwards...I'm pretty sure that the time we spend in our room will not include enjoying flowers. 3. the scenery is so gorgeous that I didn't want people to oogle at the arrangements rather the natural beauty) and decor because of reason #3 above. BUT, if we have to move everything indoors...WHAT DO I DO??? It won't look like a wedding at all!!!!! Oh my goodness, I'm ready to cry!

First of all, the resorts are pros at this so if it happens that things have to get moved inside, they'll do their absolute best to make sure it looks wonderful. If you're nervous, why don't you fire off a quick email to your WC and just ask her now what happens if it rains? Where do they move you to? What is the drop dead timeline for you to make the decision of in or out? That at least gives you a starting point. At least get information to work with that might help you settle a bit. We had rain on our wedding day in Jamaica but it didn't last. It was about 15 mins. just after the ceremony and 10 minutes after it stopped you wouldn't even know it had rained.

The other thing is that a lot of times satellite reads humidity as rainfall when it actually isn't.I checked a site that I use and all I saw was sunshine and quite warm so it's entirely possible that's what you're seeing.

Sorry I can't offer any more than that. You're not in hurricane season so I think the likelihood of an all day rain is pretty slim and you'll have a beautiful wedding day!! But to put your mind at ease, just check with your WC and see what she says. Ask her what the weather is right now. lol I'm sure she'll be happy to tell you.

All the best!

Sending you lots of calming vibes!

Ok, so the thing about weather forecasts and the cancun-mayan Riviera area is that it is probably going to change like 100 times between now and the actual day.

Right now I'm checking my weather app for Cancun and it says that April Friday 17th is going to be Sunny and a high of 30c and low of 25c.

I'll give you two examples of how unpredictable the weather forecasts are.  I went to Jamaica a few years ago and the wedding was on the Wednesday.  The bride and groom were freaking out because the forecast called for rain every single day.  Like.every.single.day.and thunderstorms.  We arrived and it was sunny and freaking hot every single day.  It rained the last day we were there and honestly we were ok with that because we had had way too much sun anyway.  The wedding was a hit.  There was a bit of overcast and then the sun just like plowed through.

Last year when I went to the Mayan Riviera around this time they forecasted rain the entire time we were there...it rained...just one day and then it passed.

It's good to talk about plan B just in case.  Maybe get some pictures of the hall so you can envision what it looks and how you could fill it up without breaking the bank with their overpriced flowers.

I don't know if this would cheer you up, but this is what my weather app says! :)

@@pddcmc :( Oh no. I honestly know it's easier said than done but relax  it will all work itself out. :)  Just like @@acw271011 stated they are pros and have gone through these things a million times. They will make it as amazing as possible. If it makes you feel any better I found a video where you can see the backup area.  And it’s a nice spacious location. I hope maybe this eases up your stress a bit until you can speak to your WC.  Sending you positive vibes!!

Hey pddcmc,

As a wedding planner in the Riviera Maya, I have coordinated quite a number of wedding on a rainy day, let me tell you we were prepared.. Everything was perfect for the bride and groom. i would advice you to obviously double check with your hotel.  Most hotels here have a backup plan which is usually the ballroom, or your other options is to rent out a tent/marquee.  Something important for you: comes rain or sunshine you are saying I Do on the 17th, and no rain will ruin that for you.  I have notice quite a few times if the bride and groom are nervous/stressed because of the rain, so are the wedding guests.  Once you embrace it and if you can actually dance in the rain, everyone else will come join you.

Happy Wedding Day,

We were just in PDC last week. Before we left, there was lots of rain & thundershowers showing up in the forecast. But while we were there, it rained only once, and I would barely even call that rain. We didn't even bother to get up off our loungers.

I've been to the area 5 times and now and, as others have mentioned, these forecasts don't seem to be all that accurate. Or the forecast images are misleading. If you drill down into the forecast details, you might find that it's only a 30 or 40% chance of less than 5mm of rain (0.2 inches). And it can also be isolated - so it might rain a little further away in the jungle, but not at the beach.

If it does rain, your WC will make sure everything goes smoothly. They are experts at this and know how to handle it. But my WC told me that he only had to move 4 weddings inside last year! Fingers crossed for you!

That would be very stressful, for sure. A lot of these forecasts are usually way off! wishing you sunshine on your big day! As others have said it's unlikely that it will rain or even that it will rain enough to ruin a ceremony. It would still be beautiful on a beach with an ocean back drop with sun or rain and all your loved ones will stand by you either way.

I was just at a wedding in February in puerto Vallarta and it lightly rained during the ceremony and of course we all rather have sun but it was still beautiful and the bride was happy she didn't move it indoors. Whoever mentioned on here earlier about dancing in the rain that could not be more true! At my friends wedding We danced in the pouring rain on the beach and had the best time and the pictures turned out great(photographers can work with anything)!!

However, The Mayan area doesn't have rain that often or if it does, only for very short periods like 5 minutes so I wouldn't move anything indoors if I was you. But I am sure your day will be perfect, congrats!
