i hope so! i just don't want anyone to feel "pressured" into having kids because that what you're supposed to do, or because of age. it's a HUGE decision and one that shouldn't be taken lightly! i am one of the most indecisive people ever, but this is one thing i am sure of! lol

I'm sure this will come out the wrong way, especially to those who have kids, but... Over the last few years, I really wanted kids and was starting to get annoyed that things were taking so long (I'm 32, too). Then I got my puppy and I am so crazy in love with him that he has fulfilled whatever maternal needs I had. Sometimes I accidentally call him the love of my life and Brian is like "what?!" (I need to remember he is the furry love!). My girlfriends who are mothers say there is no comparison btw a dog and a child, but one has said that whatever I feel about the puppy it will be 100x when it's a child. But alot of things I learned with him (loss of sleep, tantrums, potty accidents, total dependence, etc) have made me realize that I just might still not be ready for children and thank god I learned that now. One day I might be more ready, and if it's too late for me physically, there are other ways.

That's a long way of saying that you need to know yourself and what you can handle and want in your life. Don't let others try to tell you when you're ready. I think you know.

(And don't drink the bdw forum kool-aid, I think pregnancy is contagious around here!)

I think it depends on a lot of things, really. For us, I enjoy just being married and sleeping in and traveling and all the things you do less of when you have a kid, so I don't mind waiting. Also, we just bought a house and we really do not have the financial freedom to be having kids and not freak out about the bills. Also, we are far away from my mom and I always pictured having her there to help...so it's a lot of things. But someday hopefully all of those will go away and we will be READY! In the meantime I just try to spend time spoiling my friends' kids and my new baby goddaughter :)

I want kids but I would like to wait a year, which is not long but my family acts like it is light years away. Just because my brother and SIL have kids like rabbits doesn't mean we are going to. With that being said I will be 29 in Feb. and my DH will be 33 in Jan. so we are ready but we would like to at least get a condo before we get prego.

OMG, i hear ya with the "not quick enough for family". My FMIL bought a mini-van this year, cuz her daughter had one toddler and was prego at the time (baby now a month or two old), and she said, well i will need the space for you and Matt's kids too! I was like, slow your roll lady! But she was thinknig for the future, she doesn't pressure me (us) or anything, she was buying a new car and figured she might as well buy what she will need in the future!

Well I had this notion when I was younger that I would be married by 22 (missed that by 4 years) and have my first child by 24 (that's when my mom had me). I will be 27 when this baby is born and honestly as much as we were not really prepared for it, I think in our own little way we were.

I don't think its abnormal to not want kids now, or ever. For me, I have always known I would be a mom (some way-it never really mattered if I had them naturally) but I have always been a very motherly person. My best friend is older than me and she has always said I mother her.

I chose my career so I could be a mother and I think that is all normal as well.

ok, my story.

like ann, i always knew i wanted to have kids but of course i never really wanted to start trying for years. once i met steve i started to get the itch but one morning the baby bug hit us both hard and i started obsessing on it. it was like a switch was turned on.

when i finally got pregnant i was so excited...the closer i got to the due date, the more i started freaking out though...steve and i have a very great life...he plays in his band and i would sometimes go on tour with him...we would eat out wherever/whenever we wanted, could afford to travel when we wanted...we were at this really comfortable place in our lives so the thought of a baby coming along and disrupting that was a little scary. i started to lament not going out to dinners, seeing friends, going to shows, etc.

then when baby came along it was like survival mode for the first 2 weeks...we were like, what did we do! we are f*cked! no sleep, no rationalizing with baby, etc.

then jack hit 2 weeks and things got so much easier...everyday it is a joy to wake up to him...i dont even get annoyed at waking up at 4 am (like this morning) and staying up until 6am. steve and i are just so happy. it really is this amazing love affair..these feelings you never imagined having. i hate to sound like a cheeseball but it is the best thing i have ever done and i could not be happier. we still go out to dinners but not as often and not at the drop of a dime like before...it takes a little more effort.

and for the record i have 2 cats that i love...they were my babies...everyone called me the crazy cat lady because i was obsessed...well the love for jack is sooo much more...not that i love my kitties any less but it is so different.
