Entertaining Guest Outside Of Resort.

Chichen Itza is a grand excursion, but it is an all day event so some of your guests may not be up for it. The Tulum archaeological site is closer and can be done in half a day, a good idea for those whose guests may want to return early to the resort. 

 

Xelha and other ecoparks are fantastic, but most likely your group would not stay together. If "bonding" and sharing the experience are important, you might look at private tours of some of the smaller cenote parks where you can keep the clan together, Aktunchen and Hidden Worlds come to mind. Xoximilco is a fun night experience, "trajineras" are specialized boats that do a canal circuit, guests are served authentic Mexican dishes, there is live music, games on board and lots of tequila. Your resort may be able to offer a private group tour on a catamaran or snorkeling excursion, always worth asking your coordinator for guidance too as so many hotels have in house tours that may end up being more economical.

 

If your guests have a mixed bunch of tastes, sometimes you may offer a couple of options, ie, golf outing for some, archaeological site for others, snorkeling trip for the rest. I do like the idea of doing something as a group though, makes the experience something special. There are SO many options that it can be tough to decide, I would measure your group's interests (and your own of course, it should reflect your taste!) and narrow down the list.

@@beckys98 & @racht33 - I think we did the exact same tour in 2010 (Coba, Mayan village & cenote), but unfortunately I don't know the name of the company either

 

I've also done a tour with this organization: http://www.siankaantours.org/en/cont/tours/(Looks like I did a combo of the Muyil Forest & Float and Sian Ka'an Ancient Canal.) I loved floating down the canal and the lunch was delicious. I think they may only be able to handle smaller groups, but it might be worth checking out.

Anyone who is planning an excursion and planning to also pick up the costs, are you also doing OOT bags, or is the excursion your "thank you" to your guests for coming?

I am doing an excursion as m y oot bags and a thank you. It is about $3500 or so.

i thinking the bags and the excursion. Just minimal with the items in the bag. I think people will enjoy the thought of you paying for something for them to  do versus little items in the bag that some may have already packed.

We are buying a catamaran for everyone. I have reached out to several vendors and received quotes on a bunch if you want me to send you the document I made. We are paying for everyone but this is our thank/welcome gift. I think it is fair if you do not want to or can't afford to pay. I would suggest perhaps they pay for their trip - but you can pay for the open bar/food portion? sometimes the trip can be like $40 a person and then the food is $15 pp

Tulum was really a magical place that you will surely love. Coba is also a great choice.
 

I'm surprised there was no mention of a day trip to Isla Mujeres or Cozumel. There are plenty of activities you can do in both.
In Cozumel there are another set of pyramids to visit, you can rent scooters and go around the island, have an ice-cream while you walk around the town.
