Entertaining Guest Outside Of Resort.

Would anyone have suggestions on group excursions in the Riviera Maya area? Catamaran cruises, party boats, snorkeling, ATVs, Jet Skis  etc. I want to find something to do outside of the resort and looking for suggestions from past Mexico visitors. Also I would like suggestions if this is something my FI and myself should pay for our guest? or something  I can provide them as an alternative and have them pay?.

I attended a wedding a few years ago in Tulum where we did a catamaran/snorkeling excursion. It was so much fun that my FI and I are thinking of doing something similar. I'm not sure who paid for the excursion in Tulum, but it was not the guests. We are planning on paying for the excursion ourselves. We are also planning a golf day (lots of avid golfers in our group). We will organize, but guests will need to cover their own costs.

While visiting Playa Del Carmen my fiance and I did a trip to the ruins in Coba, which had a bit of a tour and then you could rent a bike for like $2 and ride around the old town and check things out for an hour or two. Then they took us to a Mayan village for a traditional meal and then we went swimming in a cenote. That was super cool!! Definitely a one of a kind experience!

Have you been able to locate a catamaran to do this for your guest? I would love to find something for them. It may break into the wedding budget but a small thank you token for flying out for us.

WOW!! This sounds like so much fun!! Do you have the name of the company that organized this? We really are looking into getting a trip into the ruins and maybe even some caves if possible. Not sure how close any may be but we love having those options from companies.

Yes Please if you dont mind??! sending me the info. I think thats an awesome alternative paying for the food and drinks rather than the entire thing. We arent sure how many people will actually love to go so its a good alternative that way. Thanx!!

I think the Tulum ruins would be awesome. I've only been to Chitchen Itza (i'm probably spelling that wrong lol) and it was beautiful. Coba is also pretty close. 

 

We've been to Xel-Ha twice and love it there. It's sort of like "choose your own adventure" and tons of fun and many things to do. 

 

I've been running the idea of a catamaran by my friends but a lot of them get sea sick so I don't think it will be a good idea for us. 

 

We also had a tour with Aventure tours. We did their extreme something (can't quite remember the name of the tour itself) and that was great fun too. It's more structured than Xel-Ha because they take you through different activities, you go snorkeling with the turtles, then you go into a cenote, do some zip lining and rapel. They also provide lunch for you. They're on trip advisor, just search for Adventure Tours in riviera maya . The only downside of this one vs. Xel-Ha is that couples with small kids might not enjoy it much, whereas Xel-Ha is good for all ages.

I don't, unfortunately. We booked it from one of the vendors at the hotel! We were staying at Riu Palace Riviera Maya. Depending on where your hotel is, as @@TinkerSofi says, Coba is a lot closer than Tulum or Chitchen Itza so it was a 1/2 day outing versus a whole day, which we liked. I can't commit to missing a WHOLE day of beach time

Chitchen Itza is far!! haha, it's in a different state, not in Quintana Roo so it's a very long trip. It was worth it, but I don't know if I'd do it again while staying in Cancun, let alone in Playa. 

 

Something we did in Cancun, we rented out some seados in Marina del Rey and they took us out snorkelling. I'm not sure if they have enough seados for a whole wedding but you could try and see if there's anything like that. It was only a couple of hours and it was so much fun! The snorkelling was gorgeous too because it was in the middle of the ocean pretty much.
