Riviera Maya And Tulum Tour Recommendations

Recommended Posts

A few people in our group expressed interest in doing an excursion while they are there (ourselves included). I'm just wondering if anyone has any specific tour recommendations for the Riviera Maya and Tulum areas. We'll be in Puerto Morelos, so I think Tulum is about as far as we'd be willing to go for this particular tour. I found a few that I'm eyeing online (Edventure Tours and Yuca Treks), but I thought I would also ask around.

We are mostly interested in seeing some ruins, cenotes and snorkeling. (We love snorkeling!) I also like exploring local towns, so that would be a bonus. Basically, if we are going to take up a whole day for an excursion, I would like it to be as inclusive as possible. :)

I've also heard good things about Isla Mujeres.

Yeah, nothing is cheap! I think I've done 3 excursions in the area now. The first 2 were around $100, but they were longer days and included lunch. The last one was booked last minute and I think was $50 because it was shorter and they were trying to fill up the van for the day.

You could check the tour group that operates out of your resort to see what they have. The last tour we did was great (included transportation, gear & snorkeling at 3 different cenotes and at Akumal beach). That was the same day one for $50. If you are a small group, you might see what you can get last minute if you're comfortable winging it.

@@veryvalentine - I did not end up getting any additional feedback. The two of us ended up doing an all day excursion (after everyone else left) through Edventure Tours. It was pricey, but we left feeling like we did a lot (ruins in Tulum and three snorkel stops). We love to snorkel and we felt like the places we stopped we really different from other environments we've snorkeled in, so that was a big plus. We also only had one other couple with us, so it was basically a private tour. Our guide, Edgar, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I would highly recommend a tour through them. :)

You should be able to book any tours from your hotel.  A big excursion in the area is doing Tulum and then visiting Xel-Ha.  At Xel-Ha, you can do snorkeling.  I really like it there because it's really peaceful and you can snorkel a large area.  Xcaret is also a nice option, but it's huge.  They have a little cave area you can snorkel in, but be careful, the caves and cenotes are COLD!!!

Isla Mujeres is a fun getaway, but it's a long trip from Riviera Maya.  But worth a visit if you have time.

When do you plan on going?  Depending on what time of the year, you could possibly snorkel w/ whale sharks.

I use the website www.viator.com when looking up tours for vacation.  They cover many countries.  They're worth a shot.  But if you can find a local guide, that is always a great thing to do because you can get personal service and htey can show you fun things that they couldn't do w/ a huge group.
