Question Re: Riviera Maya Rius

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies!

I was wondering if anyone has stayed in either of the Riu Palaces (Mexico/Riviera Maya) and had guests who stayed in one of the other Rius (Tequila, Playacar, Yucatan, Lupita).  I was looking to have my wedding at Riu Palace Mexico, and the price is okay - for us - but want to keep my guest budget down.  If they can stay at the other resorts for less and we can all interact then I could theoretically have my cake and eat it too.  So my question is, how much of a hassle is it for guests of the various Rius to interact?  Can we visit each other's buffets/bars?  I've heard that the Tequila is where all the other Rius go to party and I'm okay with that idea.  Anyone with cross Riu experience?

Thanks!

I think Riu Palace Mexico is good for a wedding if you want to do Riu. I stayed at Riu Palace Riviera Maya. It was nice, but our rooms were very mildewy. I also didnt like the locations for weddings though, they werent private. We did visit Riu Palace Mexico and it was very nice. I think guests would like it. We went at night and I didnt notice their wedding locations. The entertainment staff at our resort said the nightclub isnt great. We did venture to Riu Tequilla one night and it was meh. I didnt like the resort either. These resorts are in the gated community called Playacar. We also went to a nightclub with Riu. You can ask me any questions. We had a great time. I didnt book Riu for my wedding due to our guest size, so Palace just offered us more for the size of our guests.

We have stayed at the Yucatan for vacation. Be aware Tequila where the club is does not have a beach. It is across the street so it is a walk for people to get to the ocean. Also, there is a tier of Rius and the lower ones can't go on the upper ones. Staying at the Yucatan we could go to Tequila and one more I forget. I think it depends on your crowd. We had a great time and people from Palace would come to our pool bar because it was more fun. Maybe stay with your guests up until the wedding and then switch to the other one so you aren't secluded? One of the Palaces is quite a walk from the other ones as well. My SIL and I walked to it from our hotel to talk to the wedding coordinator and it was far, wouldn't want to do it everyday

I've only been to a couple of the rius in Cancun (palace las americas and riu cancun). I agree that their wedding locations weren't too private there. We stayed at the palace las americas, and you could easily go next door to cancun and enjoy their food and drinks. No problem at all. We could have easily taken a bus to their newer hotel in cancun, i think it's called peninsula, but we heard the beaches weren't as nice. Definitely do your research as to people from what hotel can visit any riu. People staying at the Riu Cancun were not allowed into palace las americas.

@ as long as you stay at a Riu Palace, you have access to all of the Rius there. We stayed at Riu Palace Riviera Maya and it is further down the strip from the other Rius. But, we loved seeing the other Palace when we went jet skiing. I'm also glad that RPRM was further from the other resorts because it made us explore Playacar. Theres a bunch of little shops, a starbucks, and some other stores.

Oh with Riu though, you can only have dinner at the restaurant youre staying at, but you have access to everything else. But, Riu Palace Riviera Maya and Riu Palace Mexico have the same wristbands so no one would know. Riu tequilla does not have a beach they have a beach club. Which is off their resort and on the beach with a bar and restaurants. Staying at a RIU Palace you can walk the beach and go in any of the resorts

I checked out the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in February before booking my wedding there, and it's beautiful. It's a little pricer than other resorts in the area, but well worth it as it's quite high end. Unfortunately, not all my guests are able to afford it, but this is the first time alot of my family members will be in Mexico and doing an all-inclusive so I wanted them to feel comfortable knowing that it's a good place.

While I was there, I was able to meet with one of the Wedding Coordinators who was very patient and took me on a two hour tour of the whole resort, including viewing a couple of different room options, restaurants, etc. If you have any questions about this resort, please do not hesitate to PM me.
