Best Buy Gift Registry: Would You Add Electronics/gadgets?

Recommended Posts

So Best Buy just announced that it's offering wedding registries to couples. (Click here to see the BDW article with all that info).

I know this would have MADE my husband's day if this was offered while we were planning our wedding years ago! But I have to ask, would you be OK with your husband-to-be adding entertainment-based electronics like a video game console or video games to your wedding registry? Or do you think that's ... hmmmmm tacky?

Put whatever you want on there. Not everyone needs or wants crystal pitchers and candle stick holders all so often found on many registries I have shopped off of. It's 2015, technology is in abundance.

If guests don't wanna buy it, they won't. :)

While I don't want a PS4 (one day he'll stop asking for one lol) I also don't want a crystal pitcher or candle holders or picture frames. So with that said I'd much rather people make a registry of things they want and need so no one wastes their money :) so I say it's ok and if people think it's pricey or silly they just won't buy it.

I wouldn't be crazy for it, but at the same time, poor guys are stuck with linens, plates and kitchen things, which I'm sure they're not too excited about. So hey, why not give them the chance to have a few things for themselves. Usually newer play consoles can play blue rays or DVDs so they might still get some use :) (you could watch your wedding video on it? haha)

I don't know if my guests would be up for paying for trips down to our wedding AND a game console, but maybe a bunch of friends can get together and buy something from the electronic registry. With my friends that's usually what we do, we all pitch money in to buy a bigger gift for someone. I find that the items on an electronic registry would be much more expensive than one at, say, bed bath and beyond, where you can find a wide range of prices, but maybe you can have both. People will spend how much they can so if it's too much for them they won't buy it.

I say add what you both want.. But buy selecting Kohl's or target, or another full retail store, you could keep it all under. One registry.... But then again, best buy has ovens, fridges, and other big appliances...

I kinda thought that the etiquette of destination weddings is to not expect gifts from your guests?

Everyone is different and it depends what you are comfortable with. We didn't care either way and just wanted people to come to Mexico!! So we declined if people asked - not many people asked though lol. That said in Mexico we did get some very generous gifts :) mainly money. Most of the gifts we received back home were from coworkers.

@ I see your point.

I think it's common not to receive gifts but I think a registry should be created for those who want to bless you regardless of wedding location.

Otherwise those who want to honor your marriage with a gift are left "hunting" down a registry and probably asking you for one, and that in my opinion is bad etiquette.

I think it depends on the couple. I think it's perfectly in good etiquette to have a registry. As long as it's not written on the invite. People can search for the info on your website if they really want to. It is a wedding after all. I think giving a gift is a good gesture at a wedding. It doesn't have to be extravagant . No one thought anything of it to give a gift at my friends DW. I don't expect anything crazy at my wedding but having a registry allowed my relatives who felt bad they couldn't make it send a gift and I think it makes it easier on them.
