The Real OOT Bags

I worked on the real bags today! Yay!! I'm super happy with how they turned out (well only the 6 I was able to do today haha). I feel like they look more uneven on the picture than in real life. My mom also had a hard time sticking her stencil on so they didn't come out as neat.

I'm not very impressed with the stencil paper. I'm totally not a big fan or Martha Stewart, everything I buy from her brand is anywhere from "meh" to full blown crap haha. So don't buy her crappy stencil paper if you're following this for ideas. I found the stencil plastic gets stretched really easily when peeling the back so then it makes it very hard to stick on while leaving no wrinkles. Thank god I didn't do them with spray paint, because the paint would have gone into the little crevices.  I think I'll try to just use cardstock and stick it on for the next few and see how that goes. These turned out really well, don't get me wrong, but it got very time consuming sticking the stencil on perfectly. If using cardstock, there's also a spray glue to make sure the stencil stays on if using spray paint.

@@MissJen3 I steamed the bags a little bit before painting them. Yours were probably folded in squares too and so it's hard to put any kind of stencil with the wrinkles that that leaves. I just put a cotton fabric on top so that the bags wouldn't melt on my iron and I set the temperature on the lower range of cotton section :)

Seating Chart

Juan and I bought some fans for the ceremony for people to keep cool. We will be using these as our seating chart as well. I'll attach a little sign with the person's name and their table number for the reception. This way we are killing two birds with one stone :). I was working on the signs today but I'll post something once they're totally done, which won't be until June when our guests are 100% and I can finalize the seating chart :)

I need your help! LOL

Sean and I were working on our bags last night. We used card stock and cut out the stencil, and then used the paint pens from Micheal's. They look NOTHING LIKE YOURS!. Ugh. Our letters bled into each other and even though we put cardboard inside the bag, for some reason most of the paint bled through and stuck to the cardboard. It was a complete disaster!

Do you have any advice?

I just went back and caught up on your thread! Your dress looks fantastic!!

@@MissJen3 I'm so sorry for the late reply! I honestly haven't been on the computer the whole weekend, it was way too nice outside haha.

I'm wondering if it has to do with the kind of pen you used. Initially I used the sharpie ones which have a tip that is quite thin and thus took a lot of work to do each bag. When one run out I found this other one with a thicker tip, which I thought would work better. However, I soon found out I needed to be super careful with it, the paint was bleeding all over the place, even under the stencil. I ruined one or two bags with it.

I attached a picture of the two, the sharpie one was great and it was easy to use, some bleeding but not a lot. For the thicker one, I had to make sure to go through it with a dabbing or tapping motion. Also make sure to re-dampen the tip on a separate piece of paper, as a lot of paint usually comes through those and it bleeds all over again.

The other 2 things I can think of from my experiments is that either your stencil is not sticking properly, or that there's a lot of really fine details on it. If you're using cardstock for the stencil I'd try to get a hold of spray glue, so you spray it on one side and then all of it sticks really well. I think that will do the trick, even if the details are really small.

Let me know if any of that helps!

exactly, and I still tell him that even if he messes up, I'm able to follow him anyway and the only people who will know that there was a mistake is just us two. But also, he's feeling enough pressure from life and I don't want this to add on to that. It would be super cool if we could do it but it's not the end of the world.

Dress Fitting: Success!!

Dress fitting went great! The dress still fits, luckily! It closes, and they let it out a bit, which is pretty much seamless, well it is seamless hahah. That means I can actually breathe now . Here are a few pictures, forget my silly faces, my mom's photography philosohpy is literally point and shoot ahaha.

The only thing left is the hem. It was a tiny bit too long today and I was kind of stepping on it, so they're cutting another inch or so off :). I guess it's always better for it to be too long than too short (which was what most of my nightmares these last few days were about). I'm picking it up on monday and it should be ready to go! :D

@@TinkerSofi

Just saw this now. Thanks for checking it out for me. I was definately going to go there if it hadn't been for my awesome find this weekend. Now my decision will be finding a veil. But since the store I got my dress in is closing I'm thinking, when I go to pick it up at the end of summer I will see if their veils are on sale even more!

Thank you so much for the advice.

We are looking into getting stencils made. Its not that there is a lot of details on our stencil (actually just one word, Memories) its that we have to cut out the word ourselves and the other night that nearly took us an hour. If we could have a couple stencils made we are hoping we can set up an assembly line and recruit my mom for help to get them done faster.

I will let you know how round 2 turns out. LOL

I remember way back in the day when I was in kindergarten we used X-ray film to make stencils but now since it's all digital, I'm guessing that stuff is hard to find, but maybe something that has a similar consistency will work

I seriously adore your dress!! Its so perfect!! Who is the dress by?  I cant wait for your photos now!!

the brand is called sincerity. I don't think it's a well known designer but I didn't care either way, I was looking for a dress that looked nice and that fit my budget :). That brand has a lot of very beautiful dresses

Exactly!! Sometimes I wonder how some girls can actually tell even what season the dress is from, to me they all look kind of the same haha, as long as it fits, i'm good :)

I loved it because it is super light, the top part is really the heaviest due to the beading, but I can feel the breeze in the bottom :). It really is different than all the other dresses I had seen and it was a nice compromise between a DW dress and a more formal wedding gown. The design I have is called sincerity 3758 but if I had seen their website before finding this one I would have probably tried a lot more of their dresses on :)

I just realized something, the train on the model does not look nearly as long as mine. It probably has to do with the fact that they had to cut 1/4 of the dress to hem it hahah. I still love it though, especially because when it's bustled it's very seamless.
