Tinkersofi's Planning Thread - Azul Fives August 13, 2015

yeah i don't think i had told you because they just booked yesterday. Anyway, it's definitely on my to go list, especially since it's quite a bit cheaper than the hotel we're staying at!

I'm glad the list helped. the hotel's list really got me started and then I just went through my itunes and picked songs that I liked haha :)

it is coming together nicely. I don't have a lot to buy either, just a a few things off etsy. I really wanted some hangers that said bride and groom or our names, but at this point I'm kind of like "whatever", I'll use the resort wood hangers for the one picture of my dress. I know they're not as pretty but are people really going to notice, are we really going to miss them? I don't think so. I haven't scratched them off completely, but I think it's starting to dawn on me that the final payment is due soon so I better save some money.

We went on Tuesday to get Juan's ring, but since it's from spence we have to wait until they make it. I'll post a picture when he receives it.

Ohh can't wait to see his ring :)

Honestly you are right about the hanger. Yes the wooden hotel one is nicer than the plastic one but mine is sitting in my closet. Not even with my dress. They are more a keepsake. I used mine and quickly realized I couldn't as it got bent out of shape being moved all over and banged up beside things (my fault). So when we went to Mexico I packed it instead and even then it didn't do well. If you do get one I recommend traveling with it how they packed it to mail to you and only use it for pictures until that's over. They are too fragile from my experience.

I really liked the wooden ones with the writing printed on them because I remember you saying the wire ones bend out of shape easily and so they can't be used again but at this point $50 is money. I still have to finish paying the bridesmaid dresses and for $50 I'd rather get Juan a gift other than a hanger that will later sit in our closet.

The second guessing really comes from the thought of "in 20 years, will I wish that I had kept some of this stuff? or are they just going to be sitting in some box, totally forgotten?". I'm on the same boat with the garter. I like this simple one that is just the tossing garter but then I start thinking, will I wish I had kept one as a keepsake? I'm a total packrat so if it's up to me I'd keep a piece of every single thing as a keepsake, but that's just silly and am I really going to miss this stuff or will the memories be enough :)?

I guess I'm getting to that stage where I'm over the details hahah. This wedding has been almost two years and a half in the making, I just need the day to be here hahha.

@@TinkerSofi - I was reading somewhere (who knows where... reading so many articles, posts, etc. lately!) that often the hotel hangers won't work for photos. You know those hotel hangers that have the metal thing on the rod and the hanger slips into it? I'm not sure how to explain it, but you might find that you can't use the hotel hangers outside of the closet. I know that was the case at the resort we were just at near Playa del Carmen. I think it was a tips article from a photographer who suggested bringing your own hanger, even if it's just a plain wooden one. Something to keep in mind!  :)

that's an excellent point. Our resort in Cancun had hangers like that so thank you for pointing that out because I didn't remember at all! I might just bring a normal wooden hanger then. It will still look nice, but it won't cost me $50 :D. I could engrave them after the wedding, grade 7 style (you know, the Sofi + Juan 4ever haha only not as cheesy), with our names and the date haha. They will be sitting in our closet as our hidden gem :).

Oh good point on the hangers. Most hotels are like that but oddly my resort had normal ones.

You will have all the pictures too whether you keep some articles or not, so really I could see you flipping thru a photo book or on your pc more than pulling out your memory box. I've had my memory box open twice since we got home!

I don't regret my hanger but knowing what I know now, it's not an end of the world item.

Bahah as for the garter. No idea who has mine? I took it off myself (we didn't do garter toss) because it hurt. I had a mark on my leg for days. That said people took turns wearing it and it was never seen again lol.

All comes down to what matters to you and what doesn't. :)

My keepsake thing is a Scottish horseshoe. I've found two Etsy people that do them. Just trying to decide. I'm waiting on a lot of stuff for another few months. I looked at a couple of the hangers and it's good to know about the wire word ones that they bend. I looked at them. I do like the wooden ones with the writing on them. I got the robes from La Vie En Rose and they're great!! For what ended up being about $15 each, it works for me! lol

I had to look up the horseshoe tradition and I skimmed through some of the Scottish wedding traditions, they sound like fun!

The wooden ones are really pretty and they look great on pictures, if you can get them I don't think you'll regret it :)

I actually got a robe! I forgot to tell you guys haha. It's peach satin and it was actually my mom's when she was younger but it honestly looks like new. It's one size fits most and it's a little bit too big but it will do the job. I'll post a picture later :). Let's just say today my legs were not picture approved hahah.

Grand Sunset Princess!! That's my hotel!  So your hotel is right beside us!!  Too bad we didn't have closer wedding dates....that would have been sooooo cool!

I was actually thinking of you the other day because I wanted to see if you will have the same issue I have which is that the guests are split in terms of some speak only English, some speak only Spanish, some speak both.

So speeches?  What do we do?  I didn't want to give a speech in Spanish, my first language is English and I'd rather stick to English..but then some our family won't know what I'm saying.  ugh

Ceremony?  Spanglish?  I don't know if they even do that.  This is opening up a can of worms for me.  haha.  I just realized we may have to translate all the things we've been working on...$^$%^^

i thought you'd be staying at that hotel! but then she said grand riviera princess, i don't know if there's a difference but all of the hotels in that chain look amazing so it's nice to know for future visits haha.

We do kind of have that problem too. The only ones who speak spanish only are Juan's parents, but they're kind of a big deal haha so we're going to do bilingual things. For our ceremony, it will be in English but our vows will be in Spanish. We thought about doing a bilingual ceremony and translate everything but it just gets to be too long. As for speeches, we'll keep them short and say them in english and spanish.
