Tinkersofi's Planning Thread - Azul Fives August 13, 2015

AWww, I'm so sorry to hear about this pre-wedding drama.

It's sooo true though, people just don't get it.  Like they don't and I don't know if there's anything we can do about it.  Our wedding mantra right now is, "our day, their problem"  so when someone has an issue and it's outside our scope to handle, and it's basically just an annoying complaint, we will say to ourselves, "our day, their problem'.

His friend should have made his own accommodations to find a roommate or tried to get his gf to come.  It's a lot of back and forth.  I mean, your wedding is in August which is still a lot of time and you may find that some of his friends decide to come last minute, you never know.

thankfully all this played out as we thought it would. His gf said she wouldn't come so plans as usual now. I did learn my lesson though and I'm not getting involved for anyone else. At least they're good news. I feel totally mean for saying "it's good news that his gf is not coming" but it would have honestly messed everything up again.

Now to keep on planning! :D The ties were shipped today, I can't wait to see them!

Other than that, next on my to do list are:

- the dreaded playlist. I don't know why i'm putting this off so much.

- the photobooth

- finalizing the tables and making the tags for the fans

So glad to hear everything worked out!!! Yay!

I hear you on the playlist…it is one of those things that keeps nagging at me and one thing that I'm not really that motivated to do. We did make some big progress last weekend. I needed help from my fiancé with making the playlist and I found a great way for him to 'help' me where he didn't really realize he was helping. haha…like I've said before he's not a planner. ;) So I started playing songs on youtube and asking him if he thought it was a good song to dance to…he would weigh in and I would too and then we would add it to the list if we both liked it. Our list is far from finished but it made the process a little more fun.  :)

OMg the playlist. Thankfully my FI is a DJ and well versed in music...although that is sometimes our downfall because the music we like isn't necessarily the music that will get people in party mode and a wide range of people (ages) at that.

We should share our playlists...that would be fun!!

I told Juan to make a list of the songs he wants and he said he has a spreadsheet, I don't know how long this list is haha. I should start my own list, I'm so lazy... Every time I sit down to do it there's other things that catch my attention haha

Just Catching up on what I have missed on your thread...

At first I was gold shoes all the way but I like the pink shoes with the dress way better.

Wedding Drama Sucks! And it especially sucks when you try your hardest to help someone and then it just falls apart anyway, no matter who's fault! So Frustrating! It also really Sucks that you and you FI feel like you are "Done" with some people. I feel like I need to chime in here a little voice of reason....when planning a wedding emotions run high! Super high! Most people don't know how much planning goes into a wedding and most people think that a destination wedding involves no planning at all! I certainly didn't know how much planning until I started planning my own wedding! No one truly understands the stress you are under and the amount of things you have to organize and orchestrate. Some people are genuinely unaware they are being rude / difficult / etc. I'm sure your Friend thought that you'd be happy his GF was going so you wouldn't have to worry about it any more...not thinking about all the effort you put into trying to fit him in earlier. My best advice is to not hold a grudge because that only hurts you in the end...if this is the first time these people that you are "done" with have let you down then they should get another chance... remember this is the MOST important day for you...but its just another friends wedding to them..especially guys they don't get weddings or planning at all. I'm truly sorry you had to experience this frustration! I hope from here on in you have no more Drama!!!

For the friend of the family who you are trying to get a response from @Calgarybride2015 definitely had the perfect answer to that. I hope you hear from them soon. I have 12 people on my maybe list but thankfully I have until Oct 1 till finial payment....I'm giving everyone a deadline of August 1 to confirm :)

Music Playlist is going to be trouble for me I think too...for 1 I'm terrible at remembering names of songs and artists...so even if I think of a song I like I usually don't know the name or who sings it!! lol! @@veryvalentine we should definitely all share playlists!

This thread has been dead for the last week and I apologize. By the time I get home from longer hours at work then go to the gym there's basically no time for wedding planning. I knocked one of the things out of my list today: The dreaded playlist!!

It actually wasn't as bad as I thought and had fun doing it. So much fun that I put 6 hours worth of music into it haha, and that's without counting what is on Juan's list. Needless to say we're going to have to cut it by half  :( . Now I'm starting to wonder whether we might want to add another hour to the reception. I know there's not much of a point, since we can go downstairs from our wedding to the club there, but it's not the same as having a private party and it's our wedding! It turns out we have less people attending than we planned at first so that means we have some extra cash, so maybe :). I think I know Juan's answer to this so I have some convincing to do, and some numbers haha.

Now i'm stressing about whether I have too much spanish music, whether people will have fun, or they'll find my music boring. Most of our guests are Latin but I also don't want the ones that aren't to feel left out. I tried to include a variety, and I tried to choose Spanish songs with good beats, so even though you don't know what they're saying they still sound fun. I'll definitely ask my Canadian MOH what she thinks, she's really good at this.

Next I have to work on the ceremony music. That should be a lot easier. The hotel sent me a list of the playlist they have and I like a lot of the songs on there but others not so much. For example, there are some country songs and everyone knows we don't really listen to country. The good thing is that I can just swap those few songs with some that are more up our alley :) and voila! I have a great ceremony list.

I'll post a list of the songs once the reception playlist is cut down and the ceremony list is done :)

Also, for more good news: The guest booking drama has been resolved. Everyone is booked and good to go. Also, a friend is thinking she might come now. She wasn't sure she'd be able to afford it, but they might now so that's great :). Turns out her and her bf had planned another trip to Mexico in a month or so. However, he broke his foot a few weeks ago and they had to cancel that trip so now they're considering coming to our wedding :). I do feel bad for the guy, but I think they'll have a lot of fun at the wedding too, especially since some of their friends are already attending.

My brother is coming home this week and now that all the guestlist stuff has settled down they can go get their groomsmen outfits :). Juan said they'd get together with the guys in the next few weeks and go get that sorted out.

I haven't had time to read here at all so if you say its been dead I'll believe you!! lol I've tried to scan a bit in the morning on the train but just too tired. I've tried to take the time for some extra sleep instead!! lol

Wow - 6 hrs worth of music sounds great!! What kind of songs did the resort give you? Just curious....

OMG. I could just keep on adding to this playlist haha I need to stop because we need to add Juan's songs as well and then start cutting. I managed to get done the ceremony one today. Juan basically gave me total freedom on this one because it's really so that there's some background stuff going on. This is what the hotel gave us:

I changed a few, mainly some were too long and others were definitely not us, so this is what it looks like now. I still have to split it into songs that we will play before the ceremony and those that will be played after but this is the whole list:

General Songs for Ceremony:

Amazed - Lonestar

Entra a mi vida - Sinbandera

And I love her - Congo (it’s a reggae cover of the Beatles’ song)

Arioso - Bach

Better together - Jack Johnson

Can’t take my eyes off you - Frankie Valli

Me estoy enamorando - Alejandro Fernandez

Canon in D - Pachelbel

Dangerously in love 2 - Beyonce

Come away with me - Norah Jones

Ave Maria - Bach

Can’t help falling in love with you – Elvis

Besame – Ricardo Montaner

Serenade No. 13 in G Andante – Mozart

Dale alegria a mi corazon – Mercedes Sosa

Is this love – Bob Marley

My Girl – The temptations

One love – Bob Marley

Somewhere over the rainbow – Israel Kamakawiwo’ole

What a wonderful world – Louis Armstrong

It’s a beautiful day – Michael Buble

And then here are the rest of the important songs. Juan still has to pick what song he's going to dance with his mom.

Processional:

Cello Suite No. 1- Bach

Entrance of the bride:

Tour of the Kingdom (from the little mermaid sountrack haha, ok you can make fun of me now but I have always loved this song :P)

First Dance:

Valio la Pena (salsa version) - Marc Anthony

Father Daughter song:

Tale as old as time (instrumental). - From the beauty and the beast

This is a long story. As a kid I always used to ask my dad to dance this song with me, and he always would, so I thought it would be very fitting :)

Cake Cutting:

Sueños - Diego Torres

Garter Toss:

Fever - Michael Buble (This is what I'm thinking but we'll see what Juan says)

Bouquet Toss:

Another one bites the dust - Queen

Last Song:

At last - Etta James

(Juan picked the first dance, so I picked the last one :) )

So there it is! I won't get into the party songs because I have way too many haha. If you guys are interested I can post a word document with a list after I'm done editing it :). As you can tell I'm a sucker for old songs  . I just think some of the newer songs are so overplayed on the radio that I have included some for the party, but otherwise I wanted to stick to songs that people perhaps haven't heard in a while.

An update on some of the decor:

I printed out the signs I had made for the reception. My printer run out of ink at the end of the first one (of course), but I wanted to see what they looked like. I'm happy to say the chalkboard effect on the background translated extremely nice on paper. I was pleasantly surprised, so the first signs I had posted (black with white writing) are a go! I got some frameless picture frames from Ikea today, since the sign I had made had a pretty intricate frame already, and they worked perfectly. They were under $4 and I got 3 of them :) for signalling the guestbook, photobooth and the fans.

I also got a couple white plant vases from Ikea. They have like a lace finishing at the top and that's where I'll be placing the fans on the ceremony :). My mom has the small version of these, and I was going to put the pens for the guestbook on there so I thought they go well together.

Update on attire:

I went into David's Bridal today and got my chicken cutlets! LOL  . I also got the flower petals for the shoes. I haven't tried either yet because the music basically consumed my weekend haha.

I also found a garter on Etsy that I liked. I prefer the simple ones and this one is only $13 and it's simple enough. I'll probably get it soon. After that I'm pretty much set for the attire :)

Sounds like everything is falling into place nicely. A playlist is probably something i'm going to put off for a while. Six hours is great!

Sidenote, glad to hear everything worked out with the booking drama :)

You have plenty of time to get into it! I feel a lot better now that it's done because it was nagging at me haha. I do suggest starting a list somewhere of random songs you think of sometimes. It made my life a little easier.

However, I have to say this was A LOT more fun than I thought it would be. It was certainly time consuming though.
