Air Transat Carry On Luggage

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

We booked our flights with Air Transat and now I have some questions about carry on luggage. We are planning on bringing some decorations and silk flowers with us, so ideally I would like a hard top suitcase as my carry on. I was just wondering what other people's experiences were with their carry ons with Air Transat and how strict they are? I know they allow wedding dresses as a free carry on, but what about suits? How did everyone pack their decorations?

I would hate to get everything to the airport only to hear that we can't bring it on, or that it will get damaged!

Thanks!

Hi @@kellymiller

I am not using Air Transat but I thought I would just tell you what I plan on doing.

I am hoping that my dress, flower girl dress, and the boys outfits can go into my garment bag.  If not, the boys clothes can go into our carry on and we can iron them at the resort as they aren't suits.

I am packing all my decor and favors into suitcases and checking them because there is just NO way I can bring them in carry on.  All things breakable (minimal) and all things attire related for the wedding day will be in my carry on.

If you wanted to bring your flowers on the plane but are not sure a hardtop suitcase would meet requirements, maybe you could put them in a plastic shoe box sized container and put it in your carry on?

I found out all the sizing requirements for carry on for Air Canada and I went and found myself the biggest bag I could find that was still within those measurements.

After that, I just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Good luck!

I brought my our hard top luggage on the plane and it was fine to go on... I'll look at my measurements of my suitcase when I head back upstairs and let you know our dimensions. I really liked the hard top luggage as it allowed waaaaaaay more space for all of the things we brought down (flowers, decorations, OOT bag things, paper things etc) I just made sure I weighed each carry on before we left - it was a lot of shuffling around between our bags but each one ended up being 22 pounds, which is the allowance. I had one of our friends take one of our carry ons as well, which helped.

As far as the men's outfits, I just put them behind my dress in the garment bag. I had two of the men's outfits and a few of my silk dresses and it was fine, they didn't even check.

Ok I have a dumb question - please don't laugh.  Am I the only bride that worries about color transfer from the men's clothing or my flower girl dress going onto the white dress? hahaha I was thinking of putting that stuff in a cheap garment bag from dollarama and putting it inside my garment bag.   Just tell me I am too OCD and it will be fine.

I am pretty sure I am OCD or nuts, either work :P  I can wash my fiance's stuff but not my daughter's....  I have had colors rub onto things in the past that is the only reason why it even crossed my mind.  No seriously it's true hehe

You could always just put the dry cleaning style plastic bags between the items but still put them all in the same garment bag if only for your own peace of mind. I don't think it will transfer at all, but why take the chance, right?

Just as an FYI, Transat does have allowed luggage dimensions on their website for carry on and checked bags so you could take a look. Out of Pearson I know it has to be able to fit through the guides that they keep there. We flew Transat and they are a little looser I think with carry on than Air Canada but be prepared for them to double check at the airport.

I did the same. Put the guys stuff and my dresses in a plastic dry cleaning cover and then put that in my dresses garment bag.
