Not Doing Oot Bags?

Recommended Posts

We have 70 people as well and we are doing bags (even though I originally said we weren't!) but nothing that is difficult to pack! We're just putting everything in a regular gift bag with a tag and then we have custom collapsible koozies like @@IzzyDeee has above, a hangover kit in a muslin bag stamped "In Sickness & in Health", welcome note/itinerary, and some local food items. We'll go buy snacks and Red Stripes (to put in the koozies) when we arrive.

My fiance may get mugs for his would-be groomsmen (we don't have a bridal party) but that was just not feasible for a group this size! Hopefully people use the koozies.

We have like 70 people coming and I want to do OOT bags but FI thinks it'll be a waste of money. I like the Bubba idea and maraca but there's no way I can lug 70 mugs down there!

We went to Mexico last October and the Bubba Keg was seriously the best idea EVER.  A friend told us we had to get them so I did.  Well, my Margarita stayed cold all day, I didn't have to worry about spilling, it was Ahhhh mazing!  We are getting each of our guests a Bubba and I am putting a vinyl decal with each guests name on their tumbler so they don't get mixed up (I have a Cricut so I will do all of that myself).  We are likely going to have around 75 people so we will deliver the bubbas in the week leading up to the wedding since we will be over the $300 limit to bring things into the country (75 bubbas run about $500 after the bulk discount).  Our OOT bags will have much less in them since we are doing the bubbas :)

@@Kayla88 I was thinking just a bubba and the wedding favour too.  Our travel agency give us beach bags with our bookings that we'll also give out but those are free, and OOT bags are not in our budget.

What was the general reaction?

From my experience the bubba's will get used more than a bag full of amenities they probably already packed!!!

I did the tumblers with an 'oh shit' kit because the bubbas were too much for us, but looking back I kinda of wish I would have just done the bubbas and nothing else :)

Oh and score on the free beach bags... that's awesome

I think OOT bags are a great option but I'm not sure our guests will need/use everything we out into them. I know I personally would pack everything I can afford to include in there and probably wouldn't use the bag because I would of packed one anyways.

Has anyone done tank tops? Men's styled tanks. I'm thinking of having tanks with Mexico 2016 and maybe our hashtag or something on them. I've priced them out and think I can get them for about $8-$10 each and they're great quality.

My friends and I get shirts made for most events and we love having them for pictures and as keep sakes. When we go on our annual weekend trips we always wear the year priors shirt the first night.

I also think its a great conversation starter for people that don't know one and other?

Thoughts?

I was actually a little surprised at the lack of reaction to our welcome bags! Honestly, no one really even mentioned them. Not that I needed a big ole pat on the back or anything, but you do kind of hope people are impressed when you put so much thought into them and lugged all the crap down there :)

My husband is Jamaican so we event went out of our way to get local Jamaican treats to put in the bags - stuff people wouldn't have ever had and couldn't really get at the resort. We thought people would be excited about that - and maybe they were - but they didn't say anything. Of our 65 guests we saw maybe 3-4 using the koozies...

We did t-shirts for our would-be bridal party (we didn't have an official bridal party) and a couple people wore them while we were at the resort, but most didn't.

All that said, I think I would still do them if I could do it over again!

I know a lot of people are really into the OOT bags and I won't knock it since I haven't tried it (been to 2 DWs and no OOT). But we are planning an excursion (that we will host). I feel like most people will bring a lot of things that typically are included - medications, sunscreen, hand wipes, etc. At least I know I do. At one of the DWs we attended they did an excursion and for us (as guests) it was honestly the highlight of the week. So that's what we're doing. I prefer "experience" gifts lately anyhow, since it seems like everyone has pretty much what they need (first world problems lol). Plus I'm lazy

Oh I will say that bubbas or something similar are awesome. We figured that out after our first AI experience and now bring our own. If I was going to do OOT bags, it would actually be a bubba stuffed with some goodies.

@@ashhtayy I think the shirts are a great idea - especially if that's what your group does for photos etc.

@@calgarybride2015 I agree about people probably packing the items that would go into the OOT bag anyway.  We're def doing customized bubbas or tumblers, my only concern is packing the bubbas taking their size and weight into consideration. One of my friend's is in the army and he gets 2 free bags with Air Canada, so I might need to use one of his suitcase's just for bubbas lol.  I was so happy to hear about the beach bags!  I'm trying to find out how much it will be to pay for the extra for our UK guests or people who booked on their own.

@@beckys98 You put so much effort into everything, I'm sorry it wasn't more appreciated.  But as long as you wouldn't change a thing that's all that matters :)

@@vancouverpetunia We were thinking an excursion as well, but we think the elders might not be too interested.  I might out a feeler out there once we get our closer numbers.  But we're def doing some sort of customized cup for sure.
