It hurts. I only had 2 bills in Mexico in USD and I cried when I saw the conversion.

 

Pay for whatever you can in peso - ie TIPS

 

I even recommend asking if they offer it in Mexican currency (spas, gift stores, etc).

there aren't a lot of options in Canada for no foreign transaction fee credit cards. Amazon, Marriott, and Sears all have options that I know of. Also heard of someone negotiating the fee - from 3.5 down to 1.5 with his bank....

My best advise is to pay as much as possible in Canadian dollars. There are plenty of online booking sites that allows you to pay in CDN. Your Canadian travel agent should also accept payment in CDN. You may also want to consider hiring a Canadian photographer/Videographer and pay in CDN. We hired Decordova Photography for our destination wedding in the Riviera Maya and was able to pay in CDN.
