I'm pretty laid back, I mentioned sundress for the girls and guys can wear dressy shorts and a nice top.

My fiancé, father and groomsmen will all be in dress shorts :)

heheh I am so not formal!! But honestly for me, I wouldn't want to wear pants in a tropical location, so I don't feel my fiance should either. I have never doubted he being in shorts, it's more the color of the shirt that drives me mental!!!!

But if we were to marry somewhere other than a beach, he would be in pants 100%

Haha... Yeah it's whatever works for you! We do a lot of AI vacations and FI always wears pants for dinner so he is used to it! Phew!!

True story....  we were leaving to Cuba and Shawn comes downstairs in jeans... I was like 'who wears jeans to Cuba?'  It's minus 30 and I have shorts on .....  So he goes upstairs and changes.  Oops, my bad. Who knew you had to wear long pants in ala cartes? I am a female and only traveled with women so never paid attention.  We had to run into Varadero and go shopping for pants.. man they were ugly but they did the trick.  I know better now!

Edit: Cuba allowed jeans though.. I'd much prefer a man in a nice pair of dress shorts than a pair of jeans, but rules are rules I guess lol   He has some khakis for Mexico.

Yeah that's the same for us. We love to do the a la cartes for dinner and that usually means dress code, which is long pants and a collared shirt for guys, which is perfectly ok by me. It's nice to dress up a little even if you're on vacay. Even when we have the trailer out in summer for a week we try and take one night that we get out of the shorts and Ts and into something decent to go out to eat. But I also agree that it's whatever is working for you and what you want. I just realize how OLD I am!! lol

@@acw271011 - Haha shorts kind of horrify me as well :P

Funny side note.  You can see my FI in my profile pic rocking baby blue shorts for our engagement pics - those were "formal" to him :P

I made up a term "beach cocktail" on my wedding website under attire.

I would find it very odd for me to be invited to a wedding anywhere and then be told I had to wear a collar or a certain length dress, lol.

I would hope and assume people traveling all that way would have tasteful attire.

We are marrying in June at sunset and Scott is wearing a black slim fit suit with a bow tie and Chuck Taylor's.

It will be hot but it's going to be at 7pm and I think he will be fine.

Wedding Fashion is as unique as the person wearing it. No two people are the same :))

Thanks for all the great responses! This is what I put on my wedding website as of now, but I've already changed it so I'm sure it'll evolve!

"Beach chic attire. Shoes are optional!

Some examples:

For Women: Sun dress, linen pants and blouse.

For Men: Cotton or linen pants, dress shorts, and button down shirt (long or short sleeve), polo/golf shirt, sandals or dress shoes (or no shoes!) Ties and jackets are not necessary!"

I put "some examples" because I don't want people to feel like I'm telling them what to wear because that seems a little rude, but I think if I were a guest I would appreciate some suggestions and/or guidelines.  Do you guys think that sounds okay?

I'd REALLY love for my groom and groomsmen to do the dress slacks and suspenders/vest look, but I'm ultimately leaving it up to whatever he and they are most comfortable in.  He knows I love that kind of outfit though, so hopefully he'll lean in that direction ;)
