Hello Everyone!

I am so happy to have found this forum.

I am just starting my wedding planning and I am quite exciting and anxious at the same time.

We are planning a 2016  DW in Jamaica. We are looking for a family resort in Montego Bay, Ochos Rios or Negril.

We haven't chosen a date but are looking into March-April-May-June-October or November. I am also looking for a travel agent in Toronto or else where within Canada. I would love to hear from brides/groom who has been married or planning a wedding in Jamaica. And from anyone else!!!

Congrats and welcome to the site! You'll find tons of tips, ideas and suggestions here that will help you on your planning journey!

I'm a Jamaica bride, married in October. In fact we just celebrated our 3rd anniversary on October 20th. We had beautiful weather during our stay, with a bit of a shower the day of our wedding but it didn't last long and dried up very quickly. I would highly recommend our resort - Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica. We had no complaints whatsoever and the wedding team were fabulous. We had some rather unusual circumstances and ended up with the wedding coordinators signing our marriage license so they really are there to help you! There is a forum here for that resort but Jamaica has a lot of really wonderful resorts. There is also a new one called The Royalton, and the Secrets resorts are also gorgeous (St James and Wild Orchid). There are also a lot of really talented photographers in Jamaica. I would strongly recommend reading the reviews that are available on this site. Check the websites and see what past brides have said and what their experiences were. We used Merrick Cousley and absolutely loved him. He's quick to respond and his work is great.

As to travel agents, obviously I would recommend the one we dealt with but there are several that current brides here are working with that they really like so you'll get a few opinions most likely. We worked with Allison McDonald at the Marlin Travel location at 181 Bay Street and found her absolutely great in terms of helping with our group. Even when our plans all fell apart she was terrific at helping us rebook things and sort through the fall out.

In the end we still had a wonderful wedding in a beautiful paradise. Our resort has a gazebo right on the beach so you get the best of both worlds. Right on the water without you or your guests walking through sand. And you won't have gawkers in speedos because the gazebo is right down at the edge of the water with a long walkway leading to it. They don't allow people not part of the wedding to get close. There is a little beach not far but it doesn't interfere with your wedding at all, which is nice.

Good luck and happy planning!

Hi Sabrina! Congratulations! I'm getting married in Montego Bay on June 11, 2015 and my fiance is originally from Jamaica. Such a beautiful, friendly place.

We, too, needed a family friendly all-inclusive resort and that will narrow down your options pretty quickly - there are A LOT of adults only resorts! Our top contenders were RIU Palace Tropical Bay in Negril and Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in MoBay. We did also consider Royalton White Sands, but I was just too nervous going with the newer resort. Ultimately we chose IRHS because they only do 1 wedding per day and, honestly, every single wedding review I read was positive and gave me a ton of confidence in the wedding planners and how the day would turn out. It is also centrally located to Negril and Ocho Rios so it makes day trips a little easier. AND, the RIU did not have an onsite nightclub/disco and I know our group will make very good use of that! We are not the type to turn in early :)

So, in the end, it really depends on what factors are the MOST important to you. Also, I'm not sure when Easter is in 2016 but prices will be higher in March until after Easter because of spring holidays. We tried to book for the week after Easter when prices dropped, but the dates we wanted were already booked. I wanted to avoid May, so we ended up with June!

Good luck and happy planning!

Hi Sabrina! We are getting married at Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in MB on June 14, 2016. Iberostar has 3 resorts right next to each other. If you have people wanting family friendly and adult only, this is your place! Rose Hall Beach is the cheapest and super family friendly. The most expensive one, Iberostar Grand, doesn't allow kids and Rose Hall Suites, the middle one, is a little of both!

I would try to book in their off season if possible, which would be cheaper. Also, consider that hurricane season is technically from June-November. Obviously we'd all hope there isn't a hurricane on your wedding day, but when you're planning more than a year out, you just don't know.

Hope some of that helps you out! Congratulations! :)

Hi Sabrina,

I am getting married at the Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort next month. It's about an hour away from Montego Bay. It is a smaller resort (around 266 rooms), family friendly, highly rated, and they are going to have a water park there soon. I haven't been to the resort myself yet, but I have spent hours reading other brides and travelers reviews, before making my decision.

We have 32 guests coming. It should be a good time! I'll post more information after the wedding.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Congratulations on your wedding and happy planning!

-Anastasiya
