Gran Porto Real, Married 10/10//14-Pictures

Recommended Posts

We just got back a week ago from our amazing wedding trip! It was perfect, fabulous, amazing!!! I only had a few posts here but thought it was my obligation to share my experience. I learned so much from others and felt it was my duty. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.

I will review the few vendors we used in detail in that section, I am not even sure if this posts belongs so please admin feel free to move.

Background: My husband and I have been together since 2007 and have 3 beautiful chidlren together (5,3,3). We decided it was time to tie the knot in Feb 2014, because we both came from previous marriages, neither wanted anything "big". So we opted to go the destination wedding route, we picked Playa because we knew it would be affordable for our guests

Hotel: The process of picking a resort was so stressful, there were so many, I didnt even know where to begin.  I read countless reviews and narrowed down to Playacar. I liked the "small" feeling it had. In retrospect, I got ahead of myself, I got so exited that I picked a date and placed a deposit. When I got around to pricing out vacations for my guests I realized it was way too expensive. Long story short, I ended up losing my deposit and choosing Gran Porto Real instead.

GPR was amazing, so beautiful, not too big, the resort had the feeling you were in a small Mexican hacienda.

Wedding Coordinator: Katia was my coordinator, shes was always quick to respond and very helpful. There were a few things I wish she handled diffrent but overall a great experience. She coordinated everything for me but to my suprise she would not be my onsite wedding coordinator, which shocked me a bit and made me nervous.

Two weeks before the wedding she assigned me to Anat my onsite wedding coordinator. Anat and I exchanged a few emails the days leading up. She was helpful, nice and prompt. I met Anat in person 4 days prior to the wedding, I LOVED LOVED her!!! She was so incredibly sweet in person and so intune with my wedding vision. She gave me suggestions and was so easy to work with, over and over she reassured me eveything would be fine and she would be there until the very end.

Flowers: I opted to get my reception centerpieces and bouqet thru GPR, I had read reviews about how awful flowers purchased thru resorts can be. This was not the case the flowers were gorgeous!

I even purchased my bridesmaid boquets and 8 centerpieces for cocktail tables thru Floreria Riviera just in case the resort ones were bad. Floreria Rivera flowers were great but not any better quality than the resorts. I will say I was not incredibly impressed by the interaction with Floreria Rivera, they did come thru and I would use them again. I just wished they were more attentive and prompt with their emails.

Photographer: I ended up flying in my own photgrapher, she stayed at the resort and came as a guest. Initially, the first coordinator told me if the photographer was a "guest" or "family member" I would still have to pay the vendor fee but they were willing to give me a 20% discount. I thought that is ridiculous!! So i decided I would not even address the issue until the day of the wedding. The second coordinator obviosuly knew my photgrpaher was there on buisness she was very cool about and said if she is a guest i have to believe you and smiled.

Food: We did salad, soup and entree and cake for dessert. To be honest I didnt even taste the food but I heard from guests and husband that it was tasty.

Cake: We had two caked, vanilla that came in the standard package and we added a second one that was chocolate with cocunut. The standard was pretty basic with a few decorations, the "main" cake toally caught me off guard. In the cake catalog in pictured a white 3 tiered cake with red roses, real flowers. Well when I saw it the flowers were made out of frosting, it was just so bad.

DJ: We used Doremixx, we had the option of another. I just went with my gut feeling and picked him, he was great hands down. We had a combination of Spanish speaking only guests and English speaking only guest, I was worried there would not be a good balance. Not the case! Everyone had so much fun and the dance floor was never empty.

This is pretty much a quick summary...........sorry for typos done in a hurry at work=0

Congrats on being a Mrs! And thanks for your review. It's always good to read other brides experiences, and definitely helps those still in the planning stages!

I did want to ask about the beach at GPR. The reviews I've read aren't  very flattering - are they true? It looks like there is a fair amount of seaweed. GPR was initially one of the resorts on my short list, but I've since removed it so I'm curious to know your overall feelings about the resort not related to your wedding. How was the food in the restaurants? Was your room cleaned properly, or were there any issues the resort didn't address to your satisfaction?

Any comments very much appreciated!
