Unconventional Ways Of Doing Reception?

Recommended Posts

@@calgarybride2015 LOL! Ok so I'll play it safe and stick to the 4 hours

hehe

I think it depends how much you want to party/dance.

Dinner will take atleast 45m-1 hour, then if you have speeches, cake, dances, etc. that can suck up another 30m-1 hour.

If it were me, I would keep it at 4 hours, but I love to dance and party!

We have recently decided to have the cake right after the ceremony in conjunction with the cocktail hour.

I have never been a big fan of the cake cutting portion of the evening.  I feel like it's hard to catch people's attention at that point.

Right after the ceremony the cake will definitely be welcomed and I think it would be a nice time to have it.

Cake and champagne during the cocktail hour! I like this idea...especially since our dinner includes a dessert. This would eliminate wasted cake.

@@MrsCtoB Hi!!! I'm finally checking in on here again lol Planning is going well, sending out invitations on Tuesday :-) Your wedding is coming up! AHH!

By the way, I'm liking the idea of of cake during cocktail hour....just wondering if maybe people may not want their cake before their dinner, i don't know, but it sounds nice! Is everyone's reception 4 hours? I noticed one person is having 3 hour reception, I wonder if since I'm doing less of the traditions during reception if it may be good to shorten it to 3 hours instead of 4?

AMResorts (Now/Dreams/Secrets) have 3 hour receptions included in their packages. At Now Jade we would have to pay $1000/per hour to extend it. No thanks!

Eww we just paid the cost of booze per person per hour. I chose the cheapest booze so was $8.45 per person. I think to extend 3 hours and have the cocktail hour was around $1300.

@@calgarybride2015 Not sure how long my family will last partying and dancing but my friends and my FI's family can definitely hang lol I'll keep the 4 hours and figure out my exact timeline soon enough

I'm in the same boat as you @@Lia33! We only have about 30 ppl max including both of us and I'm trying to see if 3 or 4 hours will work.

@@Wafflesmom I'm not sure how many exactly we have yet, I should be getting rsvp's back by the end of March. BUT - there's over 30 booked already from my end, so there will be quite a bit more once my FI's side books. So the 4 hours is probably better for us lol I know I will have to pay the extra $1000 for the extra hour since its just 3 hours standard....not happy about it but I feel it may work better for us
