Booking Deadline For Guests

Here's something that I have been struggling with.  The deadline for our guests is on October 12th.  It seems a lot of people didn't read the wedding website our travel agent did up for us, even though we had it on the save the date cards.  A few weeks ago we created a facebook wedding page and we indicated the deadline date and we made an announcement at our engagement BBQ.  I have been nudged to send out an email, would this be going to far?

People have busy lives so sometimes a gentle reminder doesn't hurt. Having said that, how much notice have they had? How long ago was your BBQ? How many have booked so far? Did you build in any extra to your deadline? Sometimes if it's very far in advance, it's hard for people to book vacation. I know if we got an invitation right now for a DW in June of next year, neither of us would be able to do anything until January. We're both in high end jobs, which you would think gives you all kinds of leeway, but you also have to work with the people that report to you and their schedules. What about the people with children? Do they need to make special arrangements for them since November is still school time.

Lots of things that go into people making decisions. If you do send an email, I would make it very upbeat and relaxed. You don't want people to feel like they're being pressured.

Good luck!

We sent reminder texts, calls and/or emails 2 and 1 week before our deadline. Most our guests appreciated the reminder. We sent out invites mid May and they had to book by July 17 to get the group rate. It really was a week or two later but that was a secret, just incase we had slow pokes. Most booked in the last few days.

I vote you send a reminder :)

Totally fine to remind them. Our RSVP deadline was the same as our booking deadline to eliminate this issue but still required follow up for about 10 invites.

I don't think so, definitely call them or text/email them to remind them. Most people will book the last couple of days. I always just told them that I didn't want to be pushy but I didn't want anyone who miss the deadline. Most people understood :)

May I ask how far ahead of time your booking deadline should be? I see yours is in OCT, for your Nov 2015 wedding. We were going to make ours in either feb or early march of 2015, for our may 2015 wedding. Is this too late?

Depends if you mean booking deadline as in with the resort and/or airline or if you mean RSVP with you?

My airline dictated my booking deadline date and I made it the same as my RSVP for ease. The later you make your RSVP date the later you know your numbers for favors, seating, budget, etc. I made mine July 17 for my Jan 21 wedding. If people needed longer we gave them to Oct 1 ish.

Edit - I am in Canada and things work a bit different.

Our tour operator dictated ours as well. Deposits needed to be paid within 90 days of getting our contract pricing... And then paid in full 60 days before departure.
