Brides Parents Not Attending

Recommended Posts

Both my mom and dad are not going to be attending my wedding in April - because they don't want to come to Mexico.

What do you guys think about walking down the aisle alone? Would that be strange?

I don't think it would be strange. Is there someone else you could ask if you wanted? A aunt or uncle? Grandparent? Someone on fiance's side?

Are they not going solely because it's Mexico? That's sad :( I'm sorry

No aunt or uncles coming either.

yes, they are not coming simply b/c it's Mexico...on principle. It's been hard but ultimately I have realized that their decision not to attend is something they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.

I think I will just end up walking down solo with my head held high!

I feel so sorry for you. That is really upsetting.  I am glad you decided to do what you wanted and didn't cave into them.  They will regret it for the rest of their lives, 100%.

And what is people's problem with Mexico? more people die in our own countries than in Mexico!

I don't think there is any problem walking alone.    With a parent is just tradition, but meh to tradition!!! hehe.

Good luck.

My girlfriend married in Cuba. Her step dad (although he was there since she was VERY young) didn't attend because he wouldn't go to a communist country. Her mother attended though.

Seriously, what is wrong with people!? They need to get it together!

Thanks for you support  :)

I ask myself the same question day in and day out, since I got engaged!

It's possible your parents may have a change of heart. I don't know.  My fiance's dad was very upset over a destination wedding and put his heels in. When he realized we weren't changing our minds and he was the only one being an a$$, they booked.

I think that is partially what they are hoping for - that we change our minds.....but it's already booked  ;)

and some people have put deposits down. there is still time for them to have a last minute change of heart...it would be great, but can't hold my breath for that!

@@jackielemman you are so right! He's the one I'm going to be focusing and thinking about walking down the aisle everyone else will be white noise lol

My parents are not coming either. We are still moving forward. It sucks really bad. My father can step mother can not attend for financial reasons and my dad has bad arthritis. We are hoping if we get any extra money saved we can buy them a ticket and maybe they could stay with us.

My mother won't come. She is convinced after reading this website...

http://mexicovacationawareness.com

That talks about the terrible things like balcony falls, random cartel road block violence in cancun, rogue waves, that it is FAR too dangerous. She said she would be worried the entire time.

I've told her that I have been 4x and love the Mexican people, and trust me I have ventured out probably too risky. Meeting locals and going out on their boats (just us girls) and going to casino in cancun at night etc.

But we have to respect them, they gave us life. And really I wouldn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

So hold your head high and excuse their absence with grace.

I'm sure you will be missing them just as I, but we must all follow our path.

The balcony falls worries me. My resort had one in January and they were from my home town. When I did a search on it the results somewhat shocked me. That said, I made sure to put on my wedding website not to lean on balconies!
