Bought My Dress! Here's My Great Story!

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies,

If you are in the Philly area, Baranette's Bridalin Willow Grove is closing. I fell in love with the Maggie Sottero Divina a year ago when I was helping my coworker look for dresses, I pointed it out to her and little did I know she loved it and that was her dress. I knew I wanted that dress whenever my day came until I heard how much it cost then add on alterations, tax, etc. I said that it's too out of my budget. So now it's my turn. I didn't plan on looking for dresses until June or July about a year before my wedding. But I have been looking online and tried on dresses at David's bridal to see what I liked for my body type.

I started settling for other dresses that ALL had a similar look to the Divina such as the Maggie Sottero Primrose and some Mori Lee dresses. I completely crossed the Divina off my list due to price.

So earlier this week my friend/bridesmaid told me that Baranette's was going out of business and the whole store was on sale. So I called and asked if they had the Maggie Sottero Primrose, they said no (second store I called that said they didn't have it, first store Bijou said they sent tit to there jersey store because it wasn't selling) then I asked if they had Divina they said it was sold. So I didn't even want to go, take this 45 minute drive, and they don't have what I want.

Let's fast forward a few events. We get to Baranette's a few minutes before closing time (the owners are very friendly and I am going to call and thank them again on monday) despite our arrival time we weren't rushed. I knew exactly what style I had in mind (anything to top Divina, this dress I fell in love with a year ago). So I tell them what I'm looking for and me, the consultants, and my friend are searching the racks. The first rack I open, I see this dress in ivory, with a beaded belt attached and I said this looks familiar. My friend says try it on. The first dress I put on. I get it on, get to the mirror and am beyond excited ITS THE MAGGIE SOTTERO DIVINA. Now I didn't have tears and all that but the dress looked like it was made for my body with some hemming of course (I'm 4'11). I couldn't believe it, the dress I loved for a year and was comparing every other dress too was in my grasp.

Now it was time to talk price, the dress was a size 12. Which is about a size 8 in street size, it was one size too small for me. And we talked possible alterations since this is an off the rack purchase. However my wedding is in 21 months and I am planning to lose my baby weight and college weight hoping to get back to a size 6. Which God willing the dress will then only have to be hemmed.

I couldn't pass on the dress. Total cost $1,050.00!!!!!! For Maggie Sottero Divina I'm still in shock. my coworker paid close to $3,000 after tax and alterations.

I know I will lose the weight, because that was already my plan to lose by May.

So I can't tell anyone I bought the dress, I plan to have it preserved until I'm ready for fittings or should I just get it dry cleaned and put in a really good garment bag?

I have to go dress shopping with my mom and I want her to love this dress as much as I do, I secretly think she'll be an emotional wreck and will love everything. So I have to find stores near her that carry this dress so she can see me in it.

Well that's my story. I'll post pics whenever I find my phone

Yay congrats!! I'm super happy you got what you wanted and in your price range!!! It was meant to be :)

You have ample time to lose the weight and you will. You have such motivation now. That said, depending what area didn't fit you could always get a corset back put in to help! It allows for variance in size. Unless if course it has one already :)

I guess I don't fully understand what preserving a dress is. So I don't see why a garment bag isn't good enough? Protects from the elements and dust, etc. I bought mine 8 months out and just have a garment bag.

Can't wait to see a picture.

@@calgarybride2015 thank you so much. It does have a corset back so I'm very grateful for that. The dress is a sample and i did see some dirt on it. I was told to have it cleaned and preserved by my aunt. I'm not sure why. But my wedding is 21 months out. I plan to get a wally garment bag for it. I wonder if I can just have it dry cleaned first. I'm going to contact the seamstress and see what she advises.

Ok so here's a pic. Now that I have my dream dress I can plan the rest of the wedding.

Yes I would definitely clean it and get it in a garment bag, but totally ask a seamstress about preserving it. I know David's Bridal sells fancy boxes for preserving. Maybe they are air tight in there?? I love putting mine on so I don't want anything where if I open it I pay money to reseal it or whatever. After the fact sure. Would be curious her recommendations with you being 21 months out!!!

Yayy! Congrats! What a great story that you got your dream dress and for such a good price :).  I'm not sure if you need to preserve it either... I think people usually do that after they wear it? I'd just dry clean it and then put it in a garment bag away
