So I know this probably isn't a 'dropping like flies' situation but with the luck I have and the stress this wedding has recently had on me, I don't feel a tonne of optimism. 

 

Before my aunt booked to come to our wedding she had to make sure my cousin's grade 12 exams weren't the same week. She wouldn't even consider coming as she wasn't comfortable leaving him and my uncle alone (not sure why?) but I was understanding of it.  Well about a month ago she was told the exams would be in December and she went ahead and booked the 3 of them and my sister (yes I have a nice aunt!). 

 

Well apparently today she found out that the lady was wrong and the exams would be during our wedding.  It was just a msg and it sounded like none of them would be coming. I called her but she couldn't talk and said she would call me tomorrow.   I told her that she should call the school and demand that they let him write early because she was giving false information and booked a trip.  Not sure how far she will get, but worth a shot.   UGH! I really want them there, atleast her, and it's frustrating she may lose $600 and still have to pay for my sister and not get to enjoy it herself.  She could come alone, but that's a story for another time

 

Having a completely selfish moment - which I am allowed once in awhile - we also lose half of our booking bonus. Which is substantial amount of $$ - as we needed 34 and now would only have 32.  It would almost cover the cost of our photog and allow me to splurge for the Mariachi band.  I can ditch the mariachi band and pay the difference of the photog out of our budget, but that cushion was really nice and was helping me be at ease with all of this money budgeting business.  It kind of sucks, but again that's a selfish moment and I would rather her just be there. 

 

Fiance's cousin was booking thru another airline as her son works for one, but apparently she doesn't get the bonus as he isn't coming. They are also a family of 3 so we approached them with this potential need for 3 more people and they are considering it.   AHHHHH

 

So I hope this isn't a large snowball effect, but had to vent.

Ahhh that just plain sucks! Hopefully she will consider working with the schools to do his exams early!!!

Oh man. How do people not realize that when they RSVP for good, they RSVP because you need to pay deposits. Sucks that the lady gave her false information but she should be able to work around it, especially if she put money down already. Hope this works out my dear!

Oh man that sucks! I really hope she can work around it. Unfortunately I think diploma exams can't be given before because of the security around them (it's different when the teachers make the exam). He might be able to defer them until next semester maybe? Or I don't know if they would defer them for a few weeks later? I wonder what happens with people that get sick. I know I took one of my diplomas twice without taking the class twice but I had to wait until the next semester. There might be a way to work around it.

 

It's ok to be selfish. When most of my fiance's friends said they would stay somewhere else, half of me felt really bad for my fiancé but the other half was really pissed that we wouldn't get all the perks Haha. We really wanted those free people to help a few people out. I felt selfish but whatever, I think anyone would feel the same.

She looked a bit into it on her own.  She said that it says he can't be exempt but they can be deferred and it listed a long list of reasons why.  Wedding being one.  So she plans to approach someone in the school next week and see what they can do for him. Even just for him to write the 2 exams the week after.

Ah Kim, I hope it all works out!! You're definitely allowed to vent.  I'm a high school teacher and I've had kids defer or write early for different reasons.  If the student/parent is willing to work with the school and teachers now (3 months early!), I don't think it should be a problem.

I know exactly how you feel. I have a friend that booked and paid the deposit, but because he changed departments in his workplace, he can't come any more. His room is supposed to be shared by another friend of mine. So we were thinking we had to pay the difference for the single person supplement in that room ($400 difference). Luckily, another couple was willing to share the room with my friend. We now don't have to pay for the single person supplement, but we may not qualify for the 2nd "11th person free" promo since triple occupancy rooms do not count.

Is your promo with the airline or the resort? Ours is with the airline and includes anyone over 13 (so paying full price) whether they are in a double, single, or triple room. We get every 17 person free. Our 'free' wedding package at the resort only includes double rooms and we needed 10 which I think we sit around 16 so not worried about that. I quoted free as our wedding still costs $4500 ish dollars with the free package.

 

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this too. It's just tough cause you want them there. But you also have that moment were you realize that extra bonus would be uber helpful. But at the end of the day there isn't much we can do!!

 

Glad you were able to work it out for your friend though that the single supplement wasn't needed.
