Bach Parties At Resort?

Recommended Posts

Have any of you considered doing your Bachelor and Bachelorette parties at the resort?  My fiance and I moved to a different part of the country in the last year, so we are 12 hours away from our friends and family.  It's getting hard to find a weekend everyone is free and to justify the cost of flying back.  I am toying with the idea of doing a "guys night" and "girls night" on Wednesday at the resort (that is when the last guests arrive).  Our wedding is on Friday, so I thought this would be a good time to maybe divvy up the bars/restaurants and say the guys are going to these four and the girls to these four, or even leaving the AI resort and heading in to Cancun.  Have any of you thought something like this through that you can help shed some light for me?  Or do any of you see any major flaws with this plan.

Thanks in advance!!

I am just on a roll with responding today LOL. (it's snowing here in Calgary and I am unmotivated to say the least at work)

We are having my bachelorette at the resort actually - Quite a few of my friends live far away (Vancouver, Northern Alberta, England) so if I had one here, it would be #1 people who weren't invited to the wedding or who aren't coming, which I don't think is right or #2 barely anyone there. The bridesmaids and friends that I do have here are insanely busy, so trying to find a weekend that works for everyone was hellish - we just decided to forgo the one here and have one there.

We were going to go off the resort but the last group of people arrive on the Sunday(Nov 9) and our wedding is on the 11th, so we are doing a later a la carte for all of us women and then just drinking at the resort bars and moving our way to the disco. Honestly, when it came down to it, I didn't want to have to ask my guests to shell out more money to take me out drinking (or even go to Coco Bongo's) when they were already spending quite a bit. So the resort works for me. However, we are headed to Coco bongo's on the Friday before for my FI's birthday - this way, people aren't obligated to come :)

Another thing to think of and I am sure it's rare HOWEVER it happened when we were in Mexico last. Group bachelor and bachelorette party went to PDC to Coco Bongo's. Had a great time. Groom went on the street in PDC drunk with a drink in his hand, not thinking (they should of caught him at the door). Anyway - he got thrown into jail two days before the wedding. Trust me, it was like a soap opera hearing everyone talk about it while we were enjoying our cappuccino's that morning. Once again, rare but it did for this guy. Needless to say, his parents and the bride were NOT impressed. They posted bail, he got out, all was good but yeah.

Oh it's most definitely snowing here. Get this. It was 25 celcius on Sunday (77 F for you) and then snowing and snowfall warnings Monday, Tuesday and now today. However, I love it here - we get Chinooks in the winter and you can't beat being 40 minutes away from the mountains.

HOWEVER... I most definitely am excited for Mexico! We leave in 56 days!

We are doing both.

We are doing something at home for my friends here and people who can't come to the wedding/I just couldn't invite. Yes it seems wrong, but I have had SO many people (like coworkers) ask me when it is because they can't wait to celebrate with us.   So that will probably be mid November.   I will invite my family/friends from back home as a courtesy but they are in no way obligated to come!  (I know 2-3 who will, but can't invite some and not others so I will make sure they realize they aren't needed to come!)

In Mexico I was more than happy to just do a night on the resort with the disco, etc. But the boys have started planning a fishing trip, so some of my friends thought we should go off site too - a catamaran booze cruise and coco bongo's has come up. Honestly I feel so bad asking anyone to spend anymore money than needed in Mexico, so I am probably just going to shush about it and do it at the disco!

  • 2 weeks later...

I think we're going to end up doing ours at the resort too. We moved to TX last year and our friends are all in NY & MA. So it'll just be easier to do it there without spending a ton of extra money. I'm thinking we could go to the sister resort that we're allowed to go to so we don't end up going to the same places we will be at for the wedding. And it's all inclusive so it's like a free bachelor/bachelorette party!

Do any of you have any activities planned at the resort, or are you just going to hang out?

We planned welcome drinks the night we all arrive so everyone can meet eachother and we can handout our cups, etc.

We also plan to do the stag/stagettes (disco? excursion?)  It's still in the works but it will happen.

Otherwise a bridal party meeting but past that we will see what happens.

I don't want to overwhelm people so we will see who wants to do more than others and go with the flow.

I wanted a welcome dinner but it wasn't in my package. The lady said to book an ala carte when I arrive - ha ya right, like they have room last minute for 45 people.  Once I get my dedicated wedding coordinator I plan to ask again.   Not a big deal, we can all go to the buffet and eat together.
