How Many Pieces Of Luggage Are You Bringing For Wedding Stuff?

Recommended Posts

Wedding dresses on air Canada is extra bonus and doesn't count towards your carry on which is nice. I plan to stuff as many of our dresses in with mine as I can -- but anyone worried about color transfer? Maybe put BMs in smaller garment bags inside my larger one?

Sunwing is the same way from what I have been told. Bridal gown is an extra item permitted for the bride.

We plan on using the extra allowance we get in elite plus, along with the luggage we are permitted for our kids (who won't need all that space) and will likely have 2-3 more suitcases going down to Mexico than on the return. Will either use boxes or old luggage that can be tossed before returning.

I've thought about boxes or bins.  Do people do this a lot? I can't recall if I've ever seen it done.

Yup- all the time! (Boxes more than bins). As long as the dimensions/weight are the same as luggage allowance of airline it is totally good! Go to a baggage carrousel at Christmas... Hahahaha boxes are every other bag with people packing presents for the holidays!

well duh!  I guess in my mind I ship boxes at Christmas via Greyhound so didn't dawn on me!  Boxes may be easier for some of the favors.  Will keep that in the back of my mind.

I just used two tumblers I had at home and measured out how many I could get in my suitcase.  Would take the entire thing, and I would be pushing the last few in!!

i read in one thread that boxes taken to mexico as opposed to suitcases garner more suspicion from customs- they end up checking them more and scrutinizing the contents- so unless you have receipts and aren't taking things like starfishes, I would be careful

I am still 5 months out but started to think about this yesterday.

I really want to get all my guests tumblers but need 44.  I bet that takes an entire suitcase! so it is kind of panicking me. I already have 44 maracas to bring down amongst other decor.

We got upgraded to first class as a part of our package thru the TA. I can't speak for any other airline but Air Canada Vacations but I know we considered getting my kids first class and it was $300 each. No way so a friend graciously offered to sit with them as she is flying solo anyways.  My kids are only going to be 9 at the time and have no idea the difference so not worth the $$

With first class we get 2 bags each at 70lbs max (I wish we had 3 bags at less poundage as my favors are big in space but not high in weight).... then my kids get 1 bag each at 50lbs.   Overall we get 6 suitcases.

I hope 6 will be enough - 3 for clothes, 3 for wedding items.   If I had to pay for one more I will.   I probably should be more worried about how everything I want to bring on the plane will get on (carry on), so we only get one small bag each.

I am still up in the air re: suitcases.  Take ones that you can pack inside eachother to get them home, large duffle bags you can fold up into your other suitcases or just buy some old cheapies off kijiji or something and leave them at the resort.  This will be something we get serious about in the next couple months.

Just as an FYI, Canadian Tire sometimes puts luggage on sale and you can get suitcase sets (2 or 3 inside 1) for as low as $39 if you catch the really good sales. It's the exact kind of of stuf that you could take and leave behind.

Air Transat too don't count a wedding dress. It's an extra they allow.
