Our wedding is next May. Flights just recently started becoming available. Right now they are about 530-600. Is this the average or do you think we should wait a couple of months and maybe get it later this year? I am a little anxious about it. I don't want to wait too long and they go up but I also don't want to purchase now if they will more than likely go down. Thoughts?

I heard on average flights to Punta Cana from New York are around $400 if you get them at a good time.  Where are you coming from?  Maybe that has something to do with the amount....also I believe that if you book through Jet Blue and the price goes down later on they will allow you to change to that price.  I would call just to double check but I'm sure the bigger companies do that.

Yeah, I definitely think that where you are flying out of matters, however I would keep an eye on southwest.  They are just starting to fly there so once they open up flights in May I bet their prices will be super competitive, plus you get two bags free.  Even if we find cheaper flights we will probably just stick with southwest, as we love their customer service and free checked bags, when taking two bags that saves about 100 a person!

Hello all,

Southwest will be releasing their updated scheduled on the 27th of this month!! Yes I have been stalking all of the airline websites lol. Getting Married May 1 @ NOW Larimar. Majority of our wedding attendees are coming from CT with the remainder in MD/DC. So far I've seen Flights from DC/MD as low as $405 and from CT $450. I'm so anxious to purchase as like most I fear a drastic increase as we near!!!

Our TA sent a mass email last week quoting $6-$800 for DC/MD and $5-700 for CT, ever since then our phones have been ringing non stop with concerned guests....

As if we need one more thing to stress about!!!!

I'm actually going to Punta Cana next week for a previously planned trip. I'm flying southwest out of chicago and the ticket round trip was $400ish nonstop. They have three price categories and the sooner you book the cheaper the price is. Whenever I go on vacation I look for my own flights...in my case at least the travel agents always show me these really pricey flights when I can find my own for much less.

I'm getting married in April and am just waiting for Southwest to release their flight schedule (should be next week).  Even if you don't want to fly with Southwest, my assumption is that overall prices will decrease with the increase in competition.  Hopefully I'm not wrong, as this is what I've told my family!

Also, I signed up for price alerts from skyscanner.com.  All you need to do is provide your email address, traveling dates and where you are flying from and to.  They'll send you email alerts when prices increase or decrease so you can find a trend to determine the best day of the week to purchase.  For me, prices went down yesterday (Sunday) but increased by $18 today (Monday).
