Candy Bar Ideas

Are any of you guys doing a candy bar? I want to, but I don't know about lugging those glass apothecary jars with me to Mexico and I can't seem to find plastic ones. 

 

If you did one, where did you get the cheapest bulk candy from? I can't decide if I want to do a color theme or not (looks nice, but wondering if the candies aren't as tasty as if you just picked by favorite candies). I also can't decide if I would wait until Mexico (I'm in PV, they have costco and walmart) to buy candy to save on travel space but I have no idea what their selection is (not sure I would just want traditional mexican candies)

 

how many pounds do you think it would take?- I expect maybe around 40-50 guests

 

Any thoughts?

I am not doing a candy bar business but the Nut butter and Bastard Bar is amazing which is cheap too.

Try contacting the venue of your reception and see if they can give you any ideas

it does sounds very heavy to lug all the way there. On the other hand, it is very expensive to have the hotel organize a candy bar. If your hotel can offer a candy bar will they make a fuss if you bring your own candy?

Oriental Trading has an awesome wedding catalog with a lot of candy bar stuff. I love the idea of a candy bar, but would customs allow it to be brought in from the states? I thought that wasn't allowed?

i think they would...i cant see why not? I have brought food in all the time, as long as it it something like candy and not produce or meat

I am giving all of my guests a small goodie bag, with the label "love is sweet", and filling it with destination wedding themed candies (Swedish fish, life savers...).

I was going to put some kind of sweets in welcome bags. We will hardly have any children attending our wedding, and as far as a candy bar goes…we will be have 4 course meal, AND cake…I think the guests will be too full to think about candy! Also, as far as traveling with glassware…if you DO a candy bar, I recommend a different type of arrangement for holding it all. (Plastic containers, baskets, some kind of bags)
