When To Start Dress Shopping?

yeah. I would say a year is a good timeframe. Some dresses take longer and you have no way of knowing what dress you'll fall in love with

I always go wild in the summer and gain weight. All that beer lol I have about 8 lbs to lose before my first fitting in November.

Glad I found this thread, I wasn't sure when to start looking! I'll start looking asap since I'm a little less than a year away. What about bridesmaids dresses? Guess I should start looking into that now also right?

Purchasing your dress this soon is not a good choice. With a year time left you can have new designs of dress in the market. You might like them. Wait for a month or two and then start finalizing.

I made my first appointment for this weekend to try on styles since I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly. I will not likely make any final decisions in my first appointment. But if it may take several months to possibly get the dress into the store and I find a dress I love, then I may not want to risk postponing it!

My dress took 2.5 months, my BM's dresses are scheduled for 3.5 months!

6-12 months beforehand if possible ! This means you will be able to choose any dress and have it in time:) my dress has been 4 1/2 months so far and could be up to 7.

Good to know! Excited about my appointment this weekend! Debating whether or not to buy cheaper dress for TTD, or just use me actual dress. Since I'm doing it legally in NY after the DW, I'll be getting a simpler white dress also for city hall, so I need 2 dresses! Didn't want to do this originally but doing it more for my grandmother who won't be coming to the DW. The things we do for family!

I would say a year is safe. Enough time to allow ordering and alterations, depending on brand. For BMs, ours are taking 4-5 months which I found surprising. Glad I started shopping for them early too
